The PATH Group Successful Job seekers responded to the following Notes are from Judy, Jon, Stephen, Kevin & Martin What did I learn from my job search (key takeaways) What strategy or tactics contributed to their success What would I have done differently What advice would you offer PATH Group individuals

PATH - What did I learn (key takeaways) You can find another excellent job after leaving one Don’t fear the process, embrace it Got more out of volunteer job search/groups than from 12 weeks of professional outplacement Realized value of LinkedIn and need for consistent engagement, other technology too Got rid of “so what” resume and incorporated metrics

PATH - What tactics contributed to success Reached out to recruiters & companies on LinkedIn Customized resumes for ATS and networking Structured day to maximize efforts Adopted targeted approach to applying & stopped randomly applying to jobs, leveraged contacts Joined a job search accountability group & got a PT job Refreshing to meet people & focused my job searching time Network with employed people & get out of office/home

PATH - What would I have done differently Wasted time getting the “perfect” resume, applying for jobs below skill level and work on interviewing skills Start earlier, knew role was in jeopardy but waited till laid off Ask real questions rather than scripted you “should ask” Rank opportunities and focus energy on “right” ones Taken better care of myself & realize I’m not the only one going through this and provide better support to my family

PATH - What advice would you offer job seekers Develop schedule, join accountability group, track activity in file, include cover letter, and send thank you Drop the mouse, get out of the house! Meet people & network Expand search to things not considered, be open to opportunities Invest in self, maintain positive outlook, keep learning, use LinkedIn Continue to network and build it, disengage from negative people Don’t rush into your search, analyze what you want, seek help, compile documents Brand yourself, appear more relevant in today’s market, e.g. gmail.com, attire, avoid references to past, color gray/white hair

Concepts to Adopt Take time to organize and focus your efforts Utilize LinkedIn and ATS Stimulators Attend networking groups and events Join an accountability group for regular feedback SMART goal setting Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic , and Time-bound Learn and adopt Artificial Intelligence e.g. ChatGPT, Bing, Copilot, etc.
