Electriccharge:
Electricchargeisaninnatepropertyofallchargedfundamentalparticlesandcanbeeitherpositiveor
negative.Thechargedparticlesthataremostcommonintheuniversearenegativelychargedelectronsand
positivelychargedprotons.Whenchargedparticlesaremoving,theyareknownaselectriccurrents.An
exampleofanelectriccurrentistheflowofelectronsalonganelectricalwire.
Intrinsicmagneticmoment:
Incontrasttoelectriccharge,thereisnoevidencethatmagneticchargeexists.However,somefundamental
particlesdohaveaninnatemagneticpropertyknownastheintrinsicmagneticdipolemoment.Aparticlewith
amagneticmoment,suchasanelectron,canroughlybethoughtofasaverysmallbarmagnet.A
permanentmagnetisacollectionofparticleswithalignedmagneticmoments.
Electromagneticfield:
Theelectromagneticfieldisaphysicalfieldcreatedbychargedparticlesandparticleswithamagnetic
moment.Thisfieldcanalsooccasionallycreateordestroyparticles.Theelectromagneticfieldcontainstwo
components:anelectricfieldandamagneticfield.
