Digital Marketing

Search Engine Optimisation – SEO Link Building

“For people to discover your website, you need to build pathways and big, flashing signs that lead them there. In digital marketing terms, this means you need links, links and more links.” — Luisito Batongbakal

In the previous chapter, while discussing off-page SEO, I mentioned link building as a technique to drive more traffic to your website. I am sure a majority of you must have heard the term "link building" for the first time. And even if you have heard it before, you might not know much about it. The reason is, though we talk a lot about SEO and its effectiveness for promoting our business, we seldom try to dive into its details. Fortunately, you chose this course, and now you are certainly going to outshine the people in your surroundings who rely on surface-level knowledge only.

What is link building? Link building is a procedure that gets web pages to connect to each other by obtaining hyperlinks from other websites and place them to your own site. It helps users navigate between different pages on the internet. Moreover, these links help search engines spider between the pages on your website. There are various methods to create links.

Types of Links: Outbound links When you provide a hyperlink of another website or a webpage on a different domain on your website, this is called an outbound link . A Dofollow link is the default format of an outbound link. This type of link can be identified by the search engine and the site you’re linking to gets credit for the link. Your outbound link gives a small boost to the ranking of the website you are linking to. This process is also referred to as link equity or link juice. On the contrary, a Nofollow link does not transmit link juice or link equity to the website you’re linking to. Your visitors will be able to follow a link to the site, but search engines will not spider the webpage to increase its search ranking.

Building ‘ Dofollow ’ outbound links can help you develop relationships with other websites and bloggers that function within your niche.

Internal Links An internal link is a hyperlink that you apply on your website to allow the visitors to navigate to another webpage of the same website. Provide site structure Reduce bounce rate Better user experience

Inbound Links Here comes the most important aspect of SEO link building. Inbound links are often referred to as backlinks. When someone else links your website on theirs, it is called an inbound link. Provide Recognition and Trust Improve Your Website’s Ranking Increase Targeted Referral Traffic

Types of Inbound Links 1.Natural/Editorial Links This type of link is a blessing for SEOs. To put it simply, you don’t have to request the website owner to place your link because they are editorially given by them. 2. Manual/Outreach Links This is one of the most popular ways of inbound link-building. It is especially helpful, particularly when you have just started your firm and are not known to many people. 3. Self-Created/Non-Editorial Links This type of link generally doesn't work these days. They were common during the days when the PageRank Algorithm of Google analysed and ranked the websites based on the number of pages they were linked to.

How link building helps Not only does link building enhance SEO ranking, but it also provides many other advantages Builds relationships Referral business Brand building
