GLOBAL COMMUNICATION
Empowerment Technologies

WHY DO WE NEED TO STUDY EMPOWERMENT TECHNOLOGIES?

PHILIPPINES AS THE “ICT HUB OF
ASIA”
There are 106.8 cellphone per
100 Filipinos in year 2012.

Philippines is the selfiest Cities around the
world in 2013

INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION
TECHNOLOGIES
Information and communication technologies (ICT)
deals with the use of different communication technologies
such as mobile phones, telephones, internet etc. to locate
save, send and edit information.
Having a unified way to communicate is one of the
goals of ICT. In terms of economics, ICT has saved
companies a lot of resources (Time and money) with the
kind of communication technology they use nowadays.

ICT IN THE PHILIPPINES
Several international companies dub the Philippines
as the “ICT Hub of Asia.” there is a huge growth of ICT
related jobs around the country, one of which is the
Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) centers.
In the data gathered by the annual survey of
Philippine Business and Industries, NSO, in 2010, the ICT
industry shares 19.3% of the total employment population
here in the Philippines.

ICT IN THE PHILIPPINES
Philippines is dub as the ‘’ICT Hub of Asia”because of
huge growth of ICT-related jobs, one of which is BPO,
Business Process Outsourcing, or call centers.
ICT Department in the Philippines is responsible for
the planning, development and promotion of the country’s

SOCIAL MEDIA
❖is a website, application, or online
channels that enable web users to
create, co-create, discuss, modify,
and exchange user-generated
content.

6 TYPES SOCIAL MEDIA
Social Networks
are sites that allow you to connect with other people
with the same interests or background.
are sites that allow you to store and manage links to
various websites and resources.
Bookmarking Sites
are sites that allow users to post their own news items
or links to other news sources.
Social News

6 TYPES SOCIAL MEDIA
are sites that allow you to upload and share media content
like images, music, and video.
Microblogging
are sites that focus on short updates from the user.
Media Sharing Sites
Blogs and Forums
websites allow users to post their content

MOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
several of these devices are capable of
using high-speed internet.
today, the latest model devices use 4G - LTE
Networking and 5G which is the fastest mobile
network.

COMPUTER
Computer- an electronic
device for storing and
binary form, according
processing data, typically in
to
in ainstructions given to it
variable program.

Different Wares of computer
•HARDWARE- tangible
component of the
computer system.
•SOFTWARE- intangible part
of the computer system.
•PEOPLEWARE-
The user of the computer.

INTERNET
Internet- is the global system of interconnected computer
networks that use the internet protocol suite (TCIP/IP) to link
billions of devices worldwide.
•Means of connecting a computer to any other computer
anywhere in the world via dedicated routers and servers.
•Sometimes called simply ‘’the Net’’, is a worldwide system of
computer networks- a network of networks in which the
users at any one computer can get information from any
other computer.

WORLD WIDE WEB
•An information system on the
internet that allows documents to
documents by hypertext
be connected to other
links,
enabling the user to search for
information by moving from one
document to another. Invented
by Tim-Berners Lee

WEB PAGES
Web page is a hypertext document connected
to the World Wide Web. It is a document that is
suitable for the World Wide Web.
The different online platforms of World Wide Web:
- Web 3.0-Web 1.0
-Web 2.0

WEB 1.0
•It is a term coined to differentiate the first
state of the World Wide Web (www) in
comparison with the present stage of the
internet technology.
•At the beginning, there were few web content
creators.
•Webpages were static and were called read
only web.
•The only available feedback mechanism was
through private emails

W E B 1 . 0
❖most web are STATIC
❖(also known as flat page or stationary
page) in the sense that the page is “as
is” and cannot be manipulated by the
user.

WEB 2.0
•The term Web 2.0 was first used around
2004
•Internet technology became more and more
interactive
•The internet became more available for
everyone
•The users can now interact, contribute, and
create their own internet space and content
(explosion of information & social media)

W E B
2 . 0
is the evolution of Web 1.0 by adding
dynamic web pages.
allowsuserstointeractwiththepage:
instead of just reading a page, the user may
be able to comment or create a user account

W E B
2 . 0
KEY FEATURES OF WEB 2.0
Folksonomy
It allows users to categorize and
classify/arrange information using freely
chosen keywords (e.g., tagging).
Rich User
Experience
Content is dynamic and is responsive to user’s
input.
Long Tail
Services are offered on demand rather than on
a one-time purchase.

W E B
2 . 0
User
Participation
The owner of the website is not the
only one who is able to put content.
Software as
a Service
Users will subscribe to a software only
when needed rather than purchasing
them.
Mass
Participation
It is a diverse information sharing
through universal web access.

WEB 3.0
•It is described by Time Berners-Lee (father
of WWW) as the read-write-execute web
•It is referred to as the semantic web or data
driven web content and response.
•The context of the search of the user is
processed by a programming language to
help the user by presenting options of what
the person is interested in.

W E B
3 . 0
❖the Semantic Web is a movement led
by the World Wide Web Consortium
(W3C).
❖ the W3C standard encourages web
developers to include semantic
content in their web pages.
❖the aim of Web 3.0 is to have
machines (or servers) understand
the user’s preferences to be able to
deliver web content specifically
targeting the user in fast manner.

W E B
3 . 0
PROBLEMS OF WEB 3.0
CompatibilityHTML files and current web browsers could not
support Web 3.0.
Security The user’s security is also in question since the
machine is saving his or her preferences
Vastness The World Wide Web already contains billions of web
pages.
Vagueness Certain words are imprecise. The words “old” and
“small” would depend on the user.
Logic
Since machines use logic, there are certain
limitations for a computer to be able to predict what
the user is referring to at a given time.

TECHNOLOGY CONVERGENCE
Convergence is the synergy of
technological advancements to work
on a similar goal or task. For
yourexample,

besides using
computer to create word
documents, you can now use your
smartphone.

SOCIAL MEDIA
Social Media is a website,
application, or online channel that
enables web users to create , co-
create, discuss modify, and

MOBILE TECHNOLOGY
The popularity of smartphones and
tablets has taken a major rise over
the years, because of the devices
capability to do the tasks found in
PCs. These devices are capable of
using a high-speed internet. LTE or
4G is currently the fastest.

ASSISTIVE MEDIA
Assistive Media is a non- profit
service designed to help people
who have visual and reading
impairments. A database of audio
recordings is used to read to the
user.
