Chapter 1 – be active Our bodies are made to move. As you already know, engaging in physical activity can lead to better health. The more often you participate in moderately vigorous physical activity, you are less at risk for non-communicable diseases (NCDs). This chapter will introduce you to recreational activities and how active living improves your health. Your daily activities, such as taking the stairs, gardening, walking to and from school, going to the park, walking around the mall, and other similar activities contribute to improving your health.

Active people tend to sleep better. Physical activity makes you more tired so you’re more ready to sleep. Good quality sleep helps improve overall wellness and can reduce stress. Exercise also improves your mood and gives you an improved sense of well-being as it stimulates the release of endorphins which make you feel better and more relaxed. These in turn improve your mood and lower your stress levels. Additional Information

Activity # 1 – fix and go!

Procedures: 1. The students will be divided into GROUPS. 2. There will be specific words to be given and they will use these words in forming their poem about fitness. 3. Their task is to make a poem with 12 lines (4 lines for every stanza) about achieving and maintaining physical fitness and wellness by using the words given. 4. The activity must be done in 10 minutes and will be presented in front of the class afterwards. Activity # 1 – fix and go!
