Expectations 

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to: ★ Understand the system of sound and sound combinations in English (Phonology). ★ Understand how sounds are produced, how they are transmitted, and how they are perceived (Phonetics). ★ Differentiate between consonants and vowels. ★ Pronounce English sounds in isolation and in connected speech. ★ Differentiate between consonants and vowels in all word positions. ★ Distinguish phonemes and allophones. ★ Know the structure of the English syllable. ★ Know the different types of stress in English. ★ Distinguish strong and weak forms. ★ Know different connected speech processes, such as assimilation, elision, linking, etc. ★ Know the different intonation patterns of English.
