Lesson: 3.7 Universal Brotherhood Lesson: 3.7 (2nd Period) 2076/02/16 2

Scanning Universal brotherhood unites all the people as the member of a same community and works for tolerance truth and peace in individuals. It promotes the sense of we and ours, and defines the world as a common home. It treats every individual equally regardless of their race, religion, gender, economic status or geographical boundary. Lesson: 3.7 (2nd Period) 2076/02/16 3

Background Though sociable by nature, human beings stand completely divided on different basis. They may not mix up with each other freely in all cases. As a result, there may be loss of mutual love, sympathy or reciprocal respect. The loss of these entities causes the degradation of human values leading into distrust, hatred, violence and alienation. Thus, we need to develop universal brotherhood among us. Lesson: 3.7 (2nd Period) 2076/02/16 4

Back … Universal brotherhood, also known as universal fraternity, is a sense of equal treatment to every individual irrespective of their backgrounds (one’s personal belief, nationality, gender, economic status, geographical location, etc). It regards the world as a common home and the people as brothers and sisters. It is a way of establishing unity, fraternity, tolerance, truth and peace in individuals. In universal brotherhood, the world is accepted as a global village or a family. People live harmoniously as family members and share joys and sorrows. If any of the family members harmed by the other, it will be painful to every member. Lesson: 3.7 (2nd Period) 2076/02/16 5

Needs of Universal Brotherhood To unite people towards oneness of the spirit or soul; To transform an individual into a responsible being; To make the world a better living place for everyone; To cultivate cosmic love as an essence of life; To maintain peace in all rounds and remove conflict at any cost; To teach people to manage the socio-cultural factors properly. Lesson: 3.7 (2nd Period) 2076/02/16 6

Importance of Universal Brotherhood It helps to develop a sense of mutual bond thereby dismantling disputes. It helps to reduce the violence in the world and hence contributes to maintain peace and stability. It encourage young people to involve in social activities, welfare and relief programmes . As it shares the ideas of all religions of the world, it helps in maintaining tolerance. It teaches young people social service, compassion and benevolence (kindness). Lesson: 3.7 (2nd Period) 2076/02/16 7

Ways of maintaining Universal Brotherhood Everyone must remain over sensitive not to break the bond of universal brotherhood. Everyone has to develop mutual conversation, acceptance of diversity, ideal feeling and awareness of spirituality. Every individual should regard dialogue or table talk as the major medium to solve conflict and misunderstanding. Everyone has to avoid egoism, anger, suppression, superiority and build up fraternity by developing cooperation, coordination, mutual understanding, fellowship, companionship, kinship and togetherness. All should understand that an individual is bound to many limitation and responsibilities despite his/her right to survival and freedom. Lesson: 3.7 (2nd Period) 2076/02/16 8

Ways … All must become aware not to degrade nature because we directly or indirectly may be harming it in the process of migration, employment, development activities, industrial activities, trade, tourism, etc. All human beings should remember that the mother earth (nature) is common home to all living and non living being/things. We all are dependent on nature. If nature is healthy, we remain wealthy. Everyone should be guided by ethical values in their activities. For instance, we human beings regard the whole world as one family of God. Our guests are like our gods. If so, god never spoils its own creation and family members always support each other at the cost of their lives. Religion should be defined as a way of developing empathy for everyone’s betterment rather than its narrow orthodoxy (a belief that is accepted as true or correct) Lesson: 3.7 (2nd Period) 2076/02/16 9

What can we do? Increasing numbers of young people, boys an girls alike, are going direct from their studies into social work of some kind, into activities that have to do with public health and the relief of poverty an labour , as well as into work of education and aiding the ill and aged. This impulse must be rooted in an ethical interest. The youth of our day seems to be growing more and more conscious of the worth of the vision and conception implied in the question posed by a novelist in a book widely read and recently put on the moving-picture screen. “Have you any credit at the bank with God? When you pray for something your heart desires, has your deposit at God’s bank been exhausted or overdrawn?” Lesson: 3.7 (2nd Period) 2076/02/16 10

NAM and Universal Brotherhood Non Aligned Movement (NAM) refers to the a group of about 120 states that are not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc. This movement also promotes international solidarity and world fraternity. Fraternity is its directive principle. Similarly, SAARC, ASEAN, European Union, Common wealth Nations, etc. also promote World Fraternity. Lesson: 3.7 (2nd Period) 2076/02/16 11

Do you agree with this statements? Give any seven arguments in points. Despite the growth of people’s individualism and groupism , it is possible to maintain world fraternity. Write an editorial to public in an international newspaper. Imagine you are going to meet the General Secretary of the UNO, Antonio Guterre next week. Make a list of any seven questions that you would like to ask. Also write the imaginary answers from his side. Write any seven slogans based on theme of world fraternity. Write a letter to your friend describing the importance of world fraternity to maintain world peace. Lesson: 3.7 (2nd Period) 2076/02/16 12
