Lesson 3 and 4: Changes In Matter

Physical Change Physical changes occur when objects or substances undergo a change that does not change their chemical composition. In general a physical change is reversible using physical means. For example, salt dissolved in water can be recovered by allowing the water to evaporate.

Chemical Change When matter undergoes change that results to the formation of new substances, it is a chemical change. Sometimes, a change in a color or temperature or emitting of light are signs that chemical change took place. Heat Hydrogen + Oxygen --H—water Electricity water --E-- hydrogen + oxygen

Useful and H armful Changes in Matter Like most living things, you need to take in food, water and air to survive. These substances are broken down to be absorbed by the boy via various chemical reactions. Chemical reactions also change matter through decay and return them to simpler chemicals to our surroundings. Not all the time changes in matter are useful but there are some may cause illness to living organism.

Helpful and Harmful Organism Microorganisms and microbes a very tiny organism that can be seen under the microscope. Bacteria, m olds are important decomposer. They breakdown the materials to be absorbed by the soil and make it fertilizer for plant. What will happen if human eat spoiled food?

In a process called fermentation, microorganisms are useful in the production of food. Ex. vinegar fermented milk nata de coco fish sauce dairy products bread cheese
