What happens to my data? A  digital footprint  is a trail of data you create while using the Internet. It includes the websites you visit, emails you send, and information you submit to online services . This means out there right at this moment anything that you have ever posted online exists. Even if you have deleted it!

Activity 1-Digital Footprint Using Whiteboards 5 MINS Think of all the sites you may have posted on ever. Even if it was a survey you filled out. See if you can name all of the sites you have posted to or entered your details online

Data and why it is important When we go online we are usually sharing our data This means large organisations gather information on you all the time. The information is then looked at closely to design and build adverts that would appeal to people ultimately leading you to purchase a product or service

Data and how it is stored Other information we use online is usually stored on large computer servers so its quick and easy whenever we want to buy something Data such as Your F ullname Date of birth Full address Payment details (Bank and card details) Extension: Can you think of any others?

How data is stored?

How data is stored?

Why is this data so important? It is not only Businesses that want your information There are many nasty people looking at profiles and other data that is posted online Sex offenders look at data posted online to gather information about a potential victim Cyber criminals look to steal data so they can access a persons personal details such as banking information and other details to steal and commit fraud

Activity 2-Discuss There are many details which we have entered online over the years Think of the potential danger we expose ourselves to by posting this information online Discuss with the person next to about the dangers-Your teacher is coming round to hear the points that are being discussed.

How can we prevent our data being shared Remember THINK before you Post Does the website need all your details? Is it a secure site? Do your posts give away too much information? Reduce the number of sites you are posting to. Delete old profiles and pages about you online-you can usually contact the website owner if you wish for information to be deleted.
