LOTO Awareness Training Lock Out Tag Out Safety Procedure Overview

Aim To understand the lock out tag out procedure and prevent workplace accidents through effective energy isolation.

Objectives ☐ Understand the purpose of LOTO ☐ Define LOTO and its components ☐ Identify hazardous energy types ☐ Apply LOTO steps correctly ☐ Know roles and responsibilities ☐ Handle emergency scenarios

What is Lockout? Lockout is placing a device to ensure that energy isolating equipment cannot be operated until the device is removed.

What is Tagout? Tagout is placing a warning tag to indicate equipment should not be operated until the tag is removed.

LOTO Procedure Checklist ☐ Prepare for shutdown ☐ Notify affected personnel ☐ Shutdown equipment ☐ Isolate equipment ☐ Apply lockout/tagout ☐ Release stored energy ☐ Verify isolation

Roles and Responsibilities ☐ Engineer: Supervise LOTO process ☐ Electrician: Apply and remove LOTO devices ☐ Foreman: Conduct toolbox talk and PTW ☐ Operator: Identify and isolate equipment

Emergency LOTO Handling ☐ Verify work is complete ☐ Attempt to contact employee ☐ Supervisor authorizes lock removal ☐ Re-check isolation ☐ Remove lock under supervision

Common LOTO Mistakes ☐ Not isolating all energy sources ☐ Using someone else's lock or key ☐ Forgetting to verify zero energy ☐ Removing locks without permission ☐ Poor shift handover communication

Knowledge Check – Quiz ☐ What is the first step in LOTO procedure? ☐ Can tagout be used alone without a lockout? ☐ Who is allowed to remove a lock in an emergency? ☐ Name two types of hazardous energy. ☐ Why is verifying isolation important?
