Recruitment & career Qualification: A. Kindergarten & Elementary grade level -Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education B. Secondary level -Bachelor’s degree in Education/Arts/Science -18 units in education 5

Recruitment & career Qualification: A. Secondary vocational & two - year tech. course -Bachelor’s degree in the field or specialization -18 units in education B. College level -Bachelor’s degree - other than vocational master’s degree w/ specific area of specialization 6

PROBATIONARY PERIOD A. Complete papers w/ civil service eligibility -no probation B. Complete papers w/o civil service eligibility -undergo probation until his provisional appointment CAREER 2. Tenure of Office -stability of employment & security of tenure shall be assured the teachers. 8 Provisional status: Shall be extended to permanent appointment for the position he is holding, after rendered at least 10 years w/ efficient & faithful service.

Consent of Transfer & transportation Expenses A.Justifiable - all transportation expenses will be paid by Government. B.Not Justifiable - can make an appeal to Director of Public School -duration of appeal: transfer pending Shall be furnished by the teachers.

c.to defend himself & be defended by a representative of his choice / organization, within the time given preparing his defense. d.to appeal to clearly designated authorities :no publicity CAREER 10 5. Safeguards in Disciplinary Procedure The right: a. to be informed , in writing of the charges b. Full access to the evidence in the case

7. No Discrimination -entrance to the teaching profession -during exercises -termination of services -any ground other than professional consideration CAREER 11 6. Administrative charges - shall be heard initially by a committee composed of the corresponding Superintendent. -committee shall submit its finding and recommendations to the Director of Public School w/n 30 days from the termination of hearings.

9. Academic Freedom Teachers shall enjoy academic freedom in discharge of their professional duties, particularly with regard to teaching and classroom methods. CAREER 12 8. Married Teachers Whenever possible, the proper authorities shall take all steps to enable married couple, both whom are public teachers, to be employed in the locality.

HOURS of WORK and REMUNERATION 13 Actual classroom instruction - not more than 6 hrs/day If service needed/required: Can be more than 6hrs, but not exceeding 8hrs Regular remuneration + 25% of basic pay What if merong co-curricular & out of school activities ? Good question! “ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION” Regular remuneration + 25% of basic pay , AFTER completed at least 6hrs of actual classroom teaching a day.

Criteria for salaries 14 Teachers salaries shall correspond to the following criteria: They shall compare favorably w/ those paid in other occupations requiring equivalent or similar qualifications, training and abilities They shall be such as to insure teachers a reasonable standard of life for themselves and their families. Shall be properly graded as to recognize the fact that certain positions require higher qualification & greater responsibilty.

Equality in salary scales -salaries are appropriated by: -city -municipal district -provincial government Shall not be less than those in National Government. 16

Special Hardship Allowance Shall be compensated w/ 25% of monthly salary. 17 Cost of Living Allowance teachers ‘s salaries shall, at the very least, keep pace with the rise in the cost of living by payment of a cost-of-living index What happen to those teachers exposed to hardship /hazard places?

18 Salaries to be Paid in Legal Tender Available legal tender in Philippines Or Checks / Treasury warrants Cashable in any banking institutions operating under laws of Rep. og Philippines Deductions Prohibited No deductions shall make from the salaries of the teachers. Except specific authority of law authorizing deductions : Lawful dues and fees owing to the Philippines Public School Teachers Association Premiums properly due on insurance policies

HEALTH MEASURES and INJURY BENEFITS 19 Medical Examination & Treatments Free of charge for all teachers before they take up teaching Compensation for Injuries In accordance w/ existing laws -Teachers is protected against consequences of employment injuries -effects of physical & nervous strain on teacher’s health sha;; be compensable occupation disease. Right to be reimbursed for their traveling expenses If medical care w/ full medical facilities is necessary

Leave and Retirement benefits 20

Leave 21 Study Leave -Not exceeding one school year, after seven years of service. -schedule set by DepEd. -during leave: 60% of their monthly salary *not allowed to have more than one year study leave, unless needs to finish his thesis (w/o compensation)

Indefinite Leave 22 Indifinite sick leave of absence Granted to teachers when nature of illness demands a long treatment that will exceed one year.

Salary increase upon RETIREMENT 23 Fulfilled age & service requiremnt Teachers shall be given one range salary raise upon retirement Basis: Computation of lump sum of the retirement pay + monthly benefits thereafter
