So what is?
Introduction “Nutraceutical” term was first coined by Stephen DeFelice in 1989 which consists of two words nutrient (nurturing element) and pharmaceutical (medicinal component). Such supplements/ingredients are clinically proven to hold health benefits (prevention and treatment of disease). Marine nutraceuticals refer to the compounds derived from sea. Till now more than 20,000 marine bioactive compounds have been isolated and being used. 5 (Ref. 1)

Types I. Marine lipids: Lipids of animal origin Composition: Phospholipids, sterols, triacyl glycerol, wax esters. (Major) Glycerol esters, glycolipids and sulpho-lipids. (Minor) Uses: Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) have anti-inflammatory properties. Types V. Chitosan and its derivatives Chitosan is a natural polymer derived from chitin. It is biocompatible, biodegradable and nontoxic in nature.
