Poverty A. Const. art 23 - 30

The cry of the poor The Lord hears the cry of the poor Blessed be the Lord I will bless the Lord at all times With praise ever in my mouth Let my soul glory in the Lord Who will hear the cry of the poor The Lord hears the cry of the poor Blessed be the Lord We proclaim your greatness, O God Your praise ever in our mouth Every face brighten in Your light For You hear the cry of the poor The Lord hears the cry of the poor Blessed be the Lord

B. Six Reasons of Poverty our founders First , the example of Christ > "(Jesus) was born poor, we want to live poor." Second , a real confidence in the Love of the Heart of Christ –Providence > sermon of the mountain, "...Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. Set your heart first on the kingdom and justice of God, and all these things will be also given to you." Third , is a requirement of the apostolic zeal of the Community : to live in poverty as to be able to have the means to serve the faithful, particularly in the formation of the clergy, the education of the poor, and the diocesan missions Fourth reason is the "community of property” > The community of goods was a sign of the unity of spirit, and of a fraternity that was real, not only apparent Fifth , the love for the poor > the desire to "be like them" on the one hand, to be among the "poor of Christ“, in order to be able to help announce the Word to the poor Sixth , to help maintain the independence of the Community in relation to power

C. Five grades of poverty Fr. Alexandre ss.cc, Sorieul to Novices The fisrt grade is the act which by which any property is surrendered for the love of God The second is to put this act of renunciation “with the heart The other three grades concern the perfection of poverty The third grade is to be content with what is necessary and to refuse the superfluous. The forth, it is possible to adhere to what is necessary at all The fifth grade consists in willingly be deprived of what is needed

Our Constitutions insist that we place our confidence in God's Providence, being careful "not to allow ourselves to be seduced by riches and the power that comes with them ..." (cf. Art. 25.2). In what degree do I really attached to God, believe in His providence? How detached am I of the worldly things? Am I willing to let go of everything? Am I really credible today, or do I sometimes witness more to affluence, luxury, comfort and financial security? How can the cry of the poor find an echo in my lives? D. Reflection and sharing
