Introduction
1.A Pattern message regularity in the world, in human
made design, or in abstract ideas.
2.As such, the elements of a pattern repeat in a predictable
manner.
3.Geometric pattern is a kind of pattern formed of
geometric shapes and typically repeated like a wallpaper
design.
4.Any of the senses may directly observe patterns.

1.Conversely, abstract patterns in science, mathematics,
or language may be observable only by analysis.
2.Direct observation in practice means seeing visual
patterns which are whide spread in nature and in art.
3.Visual patterns in nature are often choatic, rarely,
exactly repeating and often involve fractals.
4.Patterns have an underlying mathematical structure.

Shape patterns
1.Shape patterns occur when a group of shapes are
repeated over and over again.
1.This pattern follow a certain sequence or order,
Of shapes that is then repeated at least two times.
The shapes can be simple shapes like circles or squares or
other objects such as rose, flowers, moon ,stars.

Examples for shape patterns
1.In the following shape pattern, what could be the
next two shapes to appear?

Continue…
The shape pattern is circle, triangle, Pentagon, star,
so the next two shapes would be circle and triangle.

Continue…
What does the missing shape have to be in order to
have a shape pattern?

Continue…
In order to complete the shape pattern diamond,
star ,triangle, triangle, the missing shape must be a
star.

Repeating patterns
Patterns that repeat themselves over and over
again according to a certain rule called repeating
patterns.
1.Some examples of repeating patterns are
2.It’s easy to protect what comes next.

What comes after the last deer?

Parts of a repeating patterns
*A repeating pattern has two main parts, the terms
and the core.
1.Terms: the objects or elements that form a pattern
are called terms. For example,

Continue…
In the pattern above
The terms are Orange stars and green circles.
2. The core: The part of a repeating pattern that stays the
same and repeats is itself is called its Core.

Continue…
In our example above, the core is made up of two
stars followed by three green circles.

Continue….
Find the core of a repeating patterns
Let’s look at an example pattern
#$$##$$##$$##$$#
How can you find the core of this pattern?

Numerical patterns
A numerical pattern is a sequence of number that
has been created based on a rule called a pattern
rule.
pattern rules can use one or more mathematical
operations to describe the relationship between
consecutive number in the sequence.
Knowing the pattern rule with help you to extend
the pattern.

Continue…
Examples for numerical patterns:
find the next two number in the following sequence: 3,6,9,12,_,_,_,_
What is the 7
th
number in the sequence:
1,3,9,27,_,_,_
what is the 8
th
number in the sequence:
1574,1584,1594,_,_,_,_,_

Continue…
Find the next two number in the following sequence: 24,14,9,_,_
find the next to two number in the following sequence: 9,17,33,_,_
find the next two number in the following sequences:
1.3,10,31,_,_
2. 64,16,4,_,_

Conclusion
Patterns are at the heart of math. The ability to
recognise and create patterns help us make
predictions based on our observations; these is an
important skill in math. Understanding patterns help
prepare children for learning complex number,
concepts and mathematical operations.
