Our Mission for Today
•Describes the exponent and the base in a
number expressed in exponential notation.
•-Identify the base and exponent in
exponential notation
•-Give the meaning of base and exponent
•-Write the exponent and base in a number
expressed in exponential notation
(M6NS-IIf-146) (MELCs Math page 244)
Let’s try this!
•Find the product of the following
expression
1. 4 x 5 =
2. 6 x 6 =
3. 7 x 3 =
4. 3 x 3 x 3 =
5. 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 =
Let’s try this!
•Find the product of the following
expression
1. 4 x 5 = 20
2. 6 x 6 = 36
3. 7 x 3 = 21
4. 3 x 3 x 3 = 27
5. 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 16
Questions
1. What is the title of the short story
based on the video clip?
2. What are the children doing there?
3. How we are going to manage our
waste?
4. As a learner, how can you lessen
waste in school and in your home?
Let’s watch this!
Questions
1. What is the title of the short story
based on the video clip?
2. What are the children doing there?
3. How we are going to manage our
waste?
4. As a learner, how can you lessen
waste in school and in your home?
Look at this
1. Who is the main character of this
anime?
2. Is he a protagonist or antagonist?
3. What’s his primary technique?
Look at this
•A protagonist and antagonist are
opposites – antonyms.
•The protagonists are generally the good
guys (even it means that sometimes
they are antiheroes) while
•The antagonists are generally the bad
guys.
Let’s watch Naruto…

Questions.
1. How many squares are there in
the 1st figure? in the 2nd figure?
And 3rd figure?
2. Discover the rule in finding the
next figure?
3. How many squares will be in the
fourth figure?
B. Read the problem
•Maria has to sew a
tablecloth 8 meters (m)
by 8 meters (m) for
their square-shaped
table in the living room.
How big is the area of
the tablecloth?
Questions.
•1.How will you find the area of the
table cloth?
•2.What number sentence will be
used to solve the problem?
•3.Are the two quantities equal?
•4.Write the equation about the
problem.
•5.How many times did you multiply
8 to get 64?
The Product
• The product 8 x 8
can be written as 8
raised to the power of
2 where 8 is the base
and 2 is the exponent.
Exponential Notation
The base is the factor which is to be multiplied
by itself the number of times indicated in the
exponent to obtain the product
The exponent tells how many times the base is
used as a factor to form a product.
Exponential Notation
“Eight to the second power”
“Eight raised to the power of two”
“Eight squared”

Exponential Notation
What is an exponent? What is a base?
Remember:
•The base is the number used
repeatedly as factor.
•The exponent tells how many times
the base is used as a factor.
