MATHEMATICS QUARTER 1 – MODULE 6 OPERATIONS ON RATIONAL NUMBERS
The module is divided into four lessons, namely: Lesson 1 – addition and subtraction of fractions Lesson 2 – addition and subtraction of decimals Lesson 3 – multiplication and division of fractions Lesson 4 – multiplication and division of decimals
Lesson objectives: After this module lesson, you are expected to: Add and subtract fractions and decimals Multiply and divide fractions and decimals Solve real life problems involving rational numbers
What I know direction: answer the following questions
Let’s differentiate the similar, dissimilar and mixed fractions Similar fraction Similar fractions are fractions that have same denominator Dissimilar fraction Dissimilar fractions are fractions with different denominators Mixed fraction Mixed numbers are quantities that have a whole number part and a fraction part
When fractions can be added and subtracted? Fractions can be only added and subtracted when these fractions are similar fractions .
Addition and subtraction of similar fraction
Steps in adding and subtracting fractions With different denominators a/b and c/d , where b and d are not equal to zero. Rename the fractions to make them similar which denominator is the least common multiple of b and d. Add and subtract the numerators of the resulting fractions Write the result as a fraction whose numerators is the sum or difference of the numerators and which denominator is the least common multiple of b and d.
Adding and subtracting dissimilar fraction
Steps in adding and subtracting mixed numbers Find the lcd of the fraction in the mixed numbers to make them similar fractions. Add and subtract the whole numbers and the similar fractions. Simplify if the resulting fraction is improper fraction.
Adding and subtracting mixed fractions
Multiplication and division of fraction Mulpication of fraction To multiply fractions, multiply numerator by numerator and denominator by denominator. Write the answer in simplest form Division of fraction A. TO DIVIDE FRACTION, MULTIPLY THE DIVIDEND BY THE MULTIPLICATIVE INVERSE (RECIPROCAL) OF THE DIVISOR. B. IF THE GIVEN IS MIXED FRACTION, CHANGE TO IMPROPER FRACTION AND FOLLOW THE FIRST RULE.
MULTIPLICATION OF FRACTION
DIVISION OF FRACTION
ADDTION AND SUBTRACTION OF DECIMALS REMEMBER: DECIMALS ARE ADDED AND SUBTRACTED JUST LIKE WHOLE NUMBERS , ALIGN THE DECIMAL POINTS, ADD AND SUBTRACT THE NUMBERS IN COLUMN AND INSERT THE DECIMAL POINT IN THE ANSWER IMMEDIATELY BENEATH THE DECIMAL POINTS IN THE NUMBERS BEING ADDED OR SUBTRACTED.
MULPLICATION OF DECIMALS
DIVISION OF DECIMALS
CONGRATULATIONS!!! YOU MAY NOW PROCEED ANSWERING THE sELECTED ACTIVITIES. thank you for listening AMOR F. CABATAN Math Teacher
