Louis Pasteur By:- Mayank chaudhary Group:–M-24,07B

Early Life Born on December 27, 1822, in Dole, France. Came from a humble family, his father was a tanner and a Napoleonic war veteran. Showed early interest in drawing and painting, but later developed a passion for science. Studied chemistry and physics at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, becoming a professor and researcher.

Contributions to Chemistry Studied molecular asymmetry, proving that certain organic molecules exist in mirror-image forms (chirality). His work laid the foundation for stereochemistry. First major recognition came from his research on tartaric acid crystals.

Germ Theory of Disease Before Pasteur, many believed in spontaneous generation (life arising from nonliving matter). Pasteur disproved this using his swan-neck flask experiment: Broth remained sterile when sealed from dust and microbes. When exposed, microbes grew. This proved that microorganisms come from other microorganisms, not from thin air. Established the Germ Theory of Disease, showing that microbes cause infections and illness.

Medical Contributions Developed vaccines: Rabies vaccine (1885): Saved a young boy bitten by a rabid dog – a breakthrough in immunology. Anthrax vaccine: Used to protect livestock. Worked on chicken cholera and silkworm diseases. His research drastically reduced deaths and revolutionized medicine.

Pasteurization Invented the process of pasteurization: Heating wine, milk, or beer to kill harmful microbes without altering taste. Prevented spoilage and improved public health. This method is still widely used today.

Legacy Founded the Pasteur Institute in Paris (1887), which remains a world-leading research center in microbiology, virology, and immunology. Known as the “Father of Germ Theory” and one of the greatest benefactors of humanity. His work laid the foundation for: Modern microbiology Immunology Public health and hygiene practices

Death Died on September 28, 1895, in Marnes-la-Coquette, France. Buried in a crypt within the Pasteur Institute.

Thank you!!
