Measurement is.. The process of quantifying individual’s achievement, personality, attributes, habits and skills The process by which information about the attributes or characteristics of things are determined and differentiated An operation performed on the physical world by observer

Evaluation is… The making of a judgement about the amount, number, or value of something A systematic determination of a subject’s merit worth and significance, using criteria governed by a set of standards Is an appraisal of something to determine its worth or fitness

How will the attainment of educational purpose be measured? Evaluation Scheme is the fourth essential component of a curriculum for assessing the extent to which the educational aims, goals, objectives have been achieved.

Evaluation Two important aspects of evaluation: Evaluation implies a systematic process, a continuous comprehensive process that utilizes a variety of techniques. Evaluation assumes that instructional objectives have been previously identified. Is a systematic process of determining the extent to which educational objectives are achieved by learners.

Test, quizzes & other measuring instruments Testing is a technique of obtaining information needed for evaluation purposes.

Phases of Instructional Process Identifying the objectives of the course & stating them in terms of students behavior. Planning & directing the learning experiences in harmony with the stated objectives Determining student progress toward the stated objectives. Using results of evaluation to improve the learning instruction.

Functions of Measurement Instructional Basic Purpose for the PRINCIPAL to determine the knowledge, , the progress and the strengths of the students. Auxiliary functions for effective teaching and learning of the TEACHERS. Administrative/Supervisory To maintain standards Determine teachers efficiency Guide for curriculum making and developing To set up norms of performance To inform parents of their childrens progress To serve as the basis of research

Functions of Evaluation To assess: Educational objectives, programs, materials & facilities The teacher The learner

Types of Evaluation Diagnostic Evaluation Formative Evaluation Summative Evaluation Placement Evaluation

Characteristics of Good Measuring Instrument Validity - the accuracy with which a test measures whatever it is intended or supposed to measure. Reliability - degree of accuracy, consistency, with which a test measures. Usability - ease in administration, interpretation and application.

Table of Specification (TOS) Is a plan prepared by a classroom teacher as a basis for test construction especially a periodic test. Is a two-way chart which describes the topics to be covered by the test and the number of items or points which will be associated with each topic.

Example of TOS
