Interior and Exterior Angles Week 3

The learners….... 1. Deduce the relationship between the exterior angle and the adjacent interior angles of a polygon/ 2. Deduce the measures of angles and the number of sides of polygons.

End Point- An endpoint is a point that marks the end of a line segment or a ray.

Answer me 1. Name the polygon and tell the number of sides. 2. Why is number 1 in the previous activity called pentagon? 3. Can you name some other type of polygon you know?

Interior Angles and Exterior Angles

Tell whether the following angles from the figure are interior or exterior

A polygon is a closed shape with straight sides. Examples include triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, and so on. Each polygon has its unique set of angles. Exterior Angles of a Polygon: An exterior angle is formed when a side of a polygon is extended outward. The sum of all exterior angles in any polygon is always 360 degrees. Remember, exterior angles are crucial in understanding the properties of polygons. Adjacent Interior Angles: These are angles inside the polygon that share a common side. The sum of adjacent interior angles in a polygon is always 180 degrees. This concept helps us analyze the relationships between angles within a polygon.

The angle of a line is equal to 180°.

Relationship Between Exterior Angle and Adjacent Interior Angle

GROUP TASK

WHO AM I?

I am an angle formed outside a polygon

I am an angle formed inside a polygon

I am the term used to describe the two angles with a common side and a common vertex,

I am a measuring device used to measure an angle,

I am formed by two angles that have a common side, and a common vertex and form a line,

We are angles whose sum is 180°.

We are angles whose sum is 9 0°.

I am another term used for total,

I am a closed figure made up of line segments in a two-dimensional plane,

I am a figure formed by two rays with a common vertex,

An exterior angle is formed when a side of a polygon is extended outward. On the other hand, an interior angle is the angle formed inside the polygon between two adjacent sides. The exterior angle and the adjacent interior angle (the interior angle next to the exterior angle) are supplementary angles. This means that when you add the measure of an exterior angle to the measure of its adjacent interior angle, you will always get a sum of 180 degrees.

Example 1: If ∠1 measures 120 (or m∠1 = 120 °), what is the measure of its adjacent angle? Solution: The adjacent angle to ∠1 is ∠3 (1. Why?) m∠1 + m∠3 = 180° (2. Why?) 120° ° + m∠3 = 180° (3. Why?) 120° ° + m∠3 - 120= 180°- 120° (4. Why?) m∠3 = 60° (5. Why?) Answer: m∠3 = 600

Using a Protractor- To use a protractor you line up your end point and bottom ray. Then you can find the degree of the angle by looking at the top ray.
