Mercury as a hazard
•The task is to be done:

hazard

the system
–Create systems to
manage it as long as it
remains
–Implement plans to
phase it out
•There is no technology
capable of cleaning up a
mercury spill safely.
Safe Disposal of Mercury on Spillage

•All jewellery should be removed.
•Avoid brooms, brushes and vacuum cleaner to clean the spilt mercury
•Never put mercury in trash bins, burners or drains or in municipal dustbins
•Switch off heating of air conditioning system during mercury spillage
•Collect spilt mercury using paper board to accumulate small mercury
