Text Information and Media The Power of Text and Information Media

Text Information and Media You must understand that every text information you write and consume has the power to change lives. Hence, you should always verify all information before spreading them.

Text Information and Media PRODUCING TEXT INFORMATION When producing text information, aim to create information of high quality. High quality information – is correct, credible, relevant, and easy for the intended audience to access, interpret, and understand.

PRODUCING TEXT INFORMATION The first thing to be done in producing text information is to follow the MIL Design Framework. Target Audience Who are the possible readers of this information? Author Who is the author of the information? Key content What is the information all about? Purpose What is the intention of creating such information? Form/Style How will this information be presented? Medium/Format Where will this information be published?

Text Information and Media How to build textual structures? Internal Textual Structure External Textual Structure Design Principles and Elements

Text Information and Media 1. Internal Textual Structure A techniques used to organize, sequence, and provide an internal framework for helping readers understand prose content. First, choose what you like your text to be, so you can decide what medium to use. There are five structures that you can use in producing text information.

The five text structures

2. External Textual Structure The techniques used to organize text with linguistic and typographic cues. These include the usage of indention, spacing, and adjustments on the typeface.

3. Design Principles and Elements The following are some design principles and elements that you should consider in building the external structure of your text information. Emphasis – A solid body text may be challenging to engage a reader. There are several ways to emphasis in text. Italics d. Color/Highlight Boldface e. Capitals Underline

3. Design Principles and Elements Appropriateness – Always consider your target audience in the Language and design you will use. Various typeface can express different emotions or meaning. Serif – Classic and Elegant look ( Times New Roman ) Sans Serif – Clean and minimalist look ( Arial , Calibri) Slab Serif – More solid and commonly used in large advertisements ( Rockwell , Courier ) Script – this type has brush-like strokes ( Edwardian , Lucida ) Decorative – This caters variety of emotions or themes. ( Chiller , Curlz , Jokerman )

3. Design Principles and Elements Proximity – This refers to how far/near the elements are to each other. Similar elements must go together. Alignment and space – This involves using margins and spacing that provide visual relief and delineation from text blocks. (Aligned left, right, centered, or justified). Organization – Good typography has strong contrast and distinctive patterns, making the text legible. (patchy and inconsistent pattern, organized and consistent pattern)

3. Design Principles and Elements Repetition – This involves the consistency and unity of elements. To keep the consistency, allot specific types of fonts for the elements. Refrain from using several types on a page to prevent distracting the reader. Contrast – This create visual interest by combining two elements. (dark and light, large ang small fonts, thick and thin, etc.)
