MODALS VERBS-USED TO INDICATE THE
WRITER’S/ SPEAKER’S ATTITUDE TO WHAT
THEY ARE THINKING OR WHAT THEY ARE
TRYING TO SAY.

1.) CAN
Used to indicate that the subject being
described is expressing an ability , asking
for permission, or possibility to do so.
EXAMPLES:
“Can you please turn down the volume ?”
“Can you please tell me the time?”
“I can recommend a good restaurant
nearby.”And etc.

2.) Will
Itexpresses future intentions and promises;
also used as an invitation or offer.
EXAMPLES:
"I will do my best to finish this on time."
"Will you please call me when you arrive?"
"I will always love you."

It introduces habitual past actions; also
used as a desire or polite request.
EXAMPLES:
"I would never lie to you."
"Would you please pass the butter?"
"I would love to go on a vacation to Italy."

EXAMPLES:
"I couldn't sleep last night because of the
noise."

It expresses as an invitation or suggestion.
Commonly used as an obligation in a formal
situation.
EXAMPLES:
“I shall return before noon .”
“Shall we go to the theater this evening ?”
“Shall I help you with your luggage ?”

It is used when stating an advice, a
suggestion, and an obligation.
EXAMPLES:
"You should see a doctor if you're feeling
unwell.“
"You should try the new restaurant down the
street; it's excellent."
"Students should submit their assignments by
Friday."

It indicates possibility or doubtful
intention; also used for permission.
EXAMPLES:
"May you have a successful year ahead .“
"It may rain later, so you might want to
bring an umbrella.“
