Final project from WM Training Cohort 7 - A showcase of what we had learned in our 3 week course in preparation for our Dispatch/ Router position. A fusion of my personal style and interests with the Waste Management business tools, attitudes and practices.

5. The Fool: Curiosity and The first steps of Understanding. “Knowing nothing of the Journey, I have set my heart to know. The path as set before me, with each step my wisdom grows.” The Job Shadow and Live training have been by far the best experience. The space between learning each step and actually-taking them. The shadow is nothing to fear… having gone through it we learn how to take the right steps through the experience of others. By daring to get experience we overcome the fear of what we do not know.

The Magician: Tools to make Decisions and Boldness to use them . “THE MAGICIAN SHAPES REALITY WITH HIS INTENTION TO CREATE THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE OUTCOME - FOR SELF AND FOR OTHERS.” – Having been given the tools to navigate the world of Waste Management “THE DISPATCHER IS NO DIFFERENT” Swords are thoughts - sharp and quick positive or negative Power of Mind - Element of the Wind - Invisible forces of change. Cups are feelings - energetic, intuitive & creative Power of the Heart - Element of the Water - How can we get things to flow Wands are powers - command, initiative and disciplined action Power of the Body -Element of Fire – How our actions shape the future Coins are values - the crossroad of time, self-esteem and the material world. If we play our cards right, there can be a certain magic to our work…

The High Priestess: Hidden Knowledge – Unsure of oneself or perhaps unwilling to share what has been learned In the Box – “ Leadership & Self-Deception” Inward Thinking… “I could see only from my own closed perspective, and I was deeply resistant to any suggestion that the truth was other than what I was thinking.”

8. The Empress: or The Impress Openness and willingness to share what we understand. Out of the Box – “Leadership & Self Deception.” What it takes to leave our mark proudly Legacy and how people remember you.

9. The Emperor: Leadership - Structures, Tiers and Functions. There are eastern and western divisions of WM. Comprising 16 Market Areas 8 areas to each Tier. Structure of leadership is meant to provide support and guidance for everyone.

10. The Lovers: MAS & OCSD The systems of Mas and OCSD work together in a relationship that holds together the corporation. A marriage that is based on flexibility and understanding MAS is the storehouse of our customer and service information. OCSD is the functional and outward facing system that allows us to direct drivers, act on customer requests and meet daily challenges to our service goals. An odd but perfectly matched couple.

11. The Justice: OPUS & NEWTON The One that keeps the balance must remember every action. Opus is one part of a system that offers a wealth of information on how well our drivers performed. The scorecard of our performance is the way we keep ourselves accountable to our customer and our values. Newton follows up and gives us a chance to research what circumstances and actions led to our Quality of Service goals. It gives us an overall look into how stable our daily work effects us as an enterprise.

12. The Temperance: Route Monitoring & Reporting - The Multi-tasker These are the most central responsibilities of the dispatcher. It is a mixture of keeping both cups full, triangulating the position of our people behind the wheel – being mindful of their safety. It is sort of an Angel like position constantly watching, measuring and being ready to help. Reporting is the other side of this position. Having to provide feedback and a clear picture of what happens on the road. Multi-tasking is a must here as all of the skills necessary are being called upon at once.

13. The Chariot : Fleet and Vehicles. The fleet of vehicles at our disposal is a combination of service tool and visual representation. While the wheels of the fleet keep the company spinning, the people who do the driving are the Face of the Company. Our fleet is how we go out to meet the people with our service. Our people are the arms we use to reach them.
