Lesson 7 – Speaking and Listening
Do you know the names of some different kinds big cats?

“Differences between Jaguars, Leopards and Cheetahs”
Comprehension Check! What three parts of these big cats are being compared? Do the three types of cats have the same marks on their coats? Which cat is big and heavy? Which cats are thin? Which cat can run very fast? Which cat climbs trees? Which cat has a small head? Which cat has short legs?

Lesson 8 – Introduce Reading Text
Do you remember the name of the three big cats that we talked about in the previous lesson? Do you remember any of the differences between them?
Focus Words:
To review, What is a SUFFIX? It is added to the end of words to change the meaning or the grammar. For example, it can change a noun to an adjective or a verb to a noun .
Can you see any suffixes in the focus words? Encircle them.

different – difference (replace the ‘t’ with ‘ ce ’ to change an adjective to a noun.) muscle – muscular (insert ‘u’ between the ‘c’ and the ‘l’, drop the ‘e’ and add - ar to change the noun into an adjective)
o point – pointed, join – joined (here, the - ed is like the past tense form of the verb, but the word acts like an adjective, just like ‘haunted’ in Day 1) rose – rosette (- ette doesn’t change the grammar of the word here, but it changes the meaning to a smaller form of something. Here, it refers to a small rose shape.) power – powerful (add - ful to a noun to change it into an adjective)

Lesson 9 – Comprehension and Consolidation
Different vowel combinations with one sound (a blend) and with two sounds (a diphthong). Sometimes two vowels together make one sound. head – the sound of ‘ ea ’ is the short ‘e’ sound /e/ feature – the sound of ‘ ea ’ is the long ‘ i ’ sound /i:/ coat – the sound of ‘ oa ’ is the long ‘o’ sound /o/ leopard – the sound of ‘ eo ’ is the short ‘e’ sound /e /
Sometimes two vowels together make two different sounds. jaguar – the sound of ‘ ua ’ is / wa :/ clear , tear – the sound of ‘ ea ’ is / ia / medium – the sound of ‘ iu ’ is / ia /
On page 31 of your work book , answer the questions about the informational text “Differences between Jaguars, Leopards and Cheetahs”
Wrap Up and Consolidation: Discuss in groups: What did you learn today about these different big cats? If you see one, do you think you can say what kind it is? What other kind of big cats are there and what do you know about them? Have you seen any big cats before? What kind was it? Where did you see it? What was it doing? Do you like cats?
