This PPT will give you a broader understanding about the definitions of curriculum. It will provide you different definitions from various author. The term 'curriculum' is derived from the Latin word "Currie" which means run, it signifies the ' run way' or a 'course' which one who runs to reach a goal. In education, curriculum is generally identified with the course of studies or lists of subjects prescribed for a course.
The Secondary Education Commission of India (1952) stated curriculum does not mean only the academic subjects traditionally taught in school, but includes the sum total experiences that a pupil receives through the manifold activities that go in the school, in the classroom, library, laboratory, workshop, playgrounds and in the numerous informal contacts between teacher and pupils.The modern education concept, as defined by Redden, emphasizes holistic development, aligning with individual and social needs.
Curriculum is the planned and guided l earning experiences and intended learning outcomes, formulated through the systematic reconstruction of knowledge and experience, under the auspices of the school, for the l earners' continuous and willful growth in personal, social competence (Tanner J. Tanner, 1975).
