It is sponsored and mentored by Ministry of Education, Government of India, aiming to fulfill National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT). The Library was dedicated to the nation on June 19, 2018, by Union Human Resource Minister Shri. Prakash Javadekar.  NDLI developed, operated and maintained by Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. It is built to provide support for all academic levels including School, Higher education, researchers and life-long learners, from all disciplines.
