Gender Sensitization A Ground-Level Perspective Real Conversations from Gwalior Railway Station Date: 18 April 2025

objective • Understand awareness and lived experiences around gender sensitization. • Hear real voices about discrimination, bias, and emotional impact. • Location: Gwalior Railway Station • Participants: 3 (Vendor, Student, Sanitation Worker)

Conversation – Seema (38, Vegetable Vendor) Seema: 'People said I wouldn't last running a stall. Men bargain more, call me rude if I speak up .’ ME: 'Do you teach your daughters differently?' Seema: 'Yes, I tell them to speak up and live with pride. It’s a silent war every day.' 🎤 ME(Interviewer): "Hi! We’re conducting a social awareness drive about gender sensitization—how people of different genders are treated and perceived. Would you mind sharing your thoughts and any personal experiences?"

Conversation – Ravi (21, College Student) ME: 'Hi Ravi, thoughts on gender sensitization?' Ravi: 'It’s about being fair to all. My female friends are harassed online. And I was told not to cry.’ ME: 'How has your perspective changed?' Ravi: 'I now talk openly about emotions. Boys need space to be vulnerable too.'

Conversation – Nazma (27, Sanitation Worker) ME: 'Namaste Nazma ji, what challenges do you face at work?' Nazma: 'We are ignored. A man shouted at me for touching his gate with a broom. No proper equipment for women.’ ME: 'Has anyone supported you?' Nazma: 'A lady once helped me file a complaint. We need dignity every day, not just once.'

SUMMARY Seema: Daily gender bias in informal work. Ravi: Boys face emotional suppression due to toxic masculinity. Nazma: Discrimination at the intersection of gender and caste. Common Themes: Normalized inequality, lack of emotional space, silence around harassment, individual acts of support.

RECOMMENDATION Educational Workshops on gender sensitivity. Sensitization training for public workers. Accessible reporting systems for gender-based complaints. Normalize male emotional health in homes and media. CONCLUSION Real change begins with conversations. Gender sensitization is lived, not just learned. Listening, acknowledging, and acting makes a difference. 'Awareness is the first step. Respect is the goal.'

THANK YOU 'If we want a more equal world, we must start by hearing every voice.'
