| was en fortunate in highschool to have erm one
particulary good teacher for subject called e socal
studies, which incorporates history and rm „ eography And
| thin the thing that made this teacher so good was that he
‘not only ad er sense of humour but he also had an
ably to control the clas in such a way that we always pad
attention when he wanted us to pay attention, but he could
lay get us to laugh at the same time. So he hada way of
in of being very fluid in is teaching style And rm he
o rary things ke er you know, sometimes he stand on
a desk and recite a poem, or held erm hd daw funny
pictures onthe Blackboard. But | never never forget him. Hs
ame was Me Sparks, which think isa fantastic name for
teacher, anyway And er hel stand atthe front ofthe as
hhehad this kind of e. he hada sort of oa funy er
short, pointy beard, and glasses and er … this kindof ren,
slcked back hair and rm... he hd sand there and ook st
us with am imperious lok on his face, and then tll joke!
Hel jst make sal laugh!

"hada teacher a school who was just awful He taught
French and German, and hs name was Clin Ti never
forget that name. sends shivers down my sine just to hear
it. te wasnt that he was a bad teacher. I fact he used to get
very good results Iwas the way he got those results. He
‘aught out of pure fea, Al he kids were scared st of him,
0 youd do his homework ist and best, because the at
‘ting you wanted was to make a mistake, you made any
mistake, in homework or in las, you had to write out one
Funded times that ight. Held been a solder inthe army and
Ihe worked as an iterogator and that was just how he
taught. We had to stand ina line outside his classroom, and
‘when he was ready hed shout ‘et i, men! and we ll
marc nto class. As the lesson went through, hel pace up
and down the lasstoom and er he used to wear those kind
of shoes that didn't make a nose, you know? And the worst
Feeling inthe whole world was when you knew he was just
behind you. You were wating fra smack on the back ofthe
head, Bt the worst was when he picked you up by the ais
‘on the back ofyour neck. That hurt.

‘The teacher remember mot from schooldays was „ em —3
teacher called Miss Potts. She was a history teacher and was
about thirteen or fourteen yeas ol. We were ll very
interested in fasion and Miss Potts used to wear the most
amazing tings to come into teach so she was a very
memorable teacher Every day we'd be asking ourselves
"What she gonna wear today? Shed wear ble tights with
red skirts and very red jumpers, and very bight red lipstick
and she'd come tetering into the classroom on very high
heels and we thought she looked wonderful But the very
best thing about Mis Potts was the way. I fact, she taught
History ~ ts what makes her most memorable. She not only
brought history to life, but she made it seem dead easy, she
did jus act out fr us, em. but the way she described
the characters fom histor made us feel aif we knew them
and and sometimes instead of writing estas we would do
«cartoon tps .em ofthe, ofthe different tales from
history and we loved
‘She was brillant, brillant teacher ts interesting cs think
another teacher who was called Mis Pots would probably
Have been called pott or „er „given such name as that,
but there was something about her hat we respected so
much that «er — she ust never had a nickname.

My favourites called Mr Brown. We al hi Brownie, but
not to is face. We would’ dae. Hes my PE teacher, nd he
eat Hel joke and make fn of you, but never in horrible,
rasty way. And we ike to ul hise too, He bald, poor guy,
totally bal, but when ts his birthday, wel ask him be
wants comb or a brush, or something ke ha. But teresa
line we all now we cart cross. We have lt of respect for
hata teacher and treats us total fit, bt he ao
keeps is distance He never re to be one of us. oh ol fa
teacher ever tres tobe, you know, a teenager ike us, same
msi, same clothes, same ots, just does work But
there another side to Brownie. He’ also head of discipline in
the school so whenever a student you know „ misbehave or
check a teacher they get sent to Mr Brown ad he caes the
‘pant off them, And when he shouts, boy hes absolutely
tering. No one, but no one, messes with M Brown
