Gandhi’s Karma- Marga in Education and its relevance in the new media age Presented by, Monami Basu Research Scholar – Journalism and MassCommunication , NGBU

Gandhiji said “Education is not merely a means to achieve status or earn money; rather it should bring freedom to the individual.” Gandhi’s Thoughts on Education

In the all India National Educational Conference held at Wardha in October 1937, Gandhiji put forth the following reforms in education: Free and compulsory education for all till primary age. Education to be imparted in the mother tongue to the child for the first seven years. Education to be imparted through some vocation. The idea was to integrate both education and vocation as work-centric education is required to make this nation self-reliant. Every Indian should learn to earn his / her living through manual work in life. Wardha Conference - 1937

Gandhiji talked about “ Nai-Talim ” which means lifelong learning, by enhancing existing skills and developing new skills, to lead a self-reliant life. Nai - Talim

Selfless service to mankind D edicating all the deeds or karma to God One must kill the ego within oneself to walk on the path of karma. He believed that only a true karma yogi can accept the world as his / her family and work towards the welfare of humanity . Gandhi’s principle of “Karma- Marga ”
