ANEMIA “ A nemia is a red blood cell disorder it occur when the concentration of hemoglobin falls below what is normal for person age , gender , environment resulting in the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood being reduced.” Anemia  can be temporary or long term and it can range from mild to severe.

Classification of Anemia According to the size of red blood cell ( 7 um to 8 um) there are three major types of anemia: 1-MICROCYTIC ANEMIA 2-NORMOCYTIC ANEMIA 3-MACROCYTIC ANEMIA

NORMOCYTIC ANEMIA “ A Normocytic anemia is when the red blood cells are of normal size but less in Number ” Normocytic anemia is defined when the  mean corpuscular volume  ( MCV ) is between 80 and 100 femtolitres (fL), which is within the normal range . Howeverthe  hematocrit  and  hemoglobin are decreesed. Normocytic anemias may be thought of as representing any of the following: A decreased production of normal-sized red blood cells (e.g., e of chronic disease, aplastic anemia); A n increased destruction or loss of red blood cells (e.g., hemolysis, post hemorrhagic anemia); A n uncompensated increase in plasma volume.

CAUSES OF NOMOCYTIC ANEMIA NON HEAMOLYTIC CAUSES Chronic diseas (kidney diseas, rheumatoid arthitis) Aplastic Anemia Acute blood loss Bone marrow Failure Iorn Deficiency Anemia (early) HEAMOLYTIC CAUSES Intravascular heamolysis Extravascular heamolysis

DIAGONOSIS To aid with determining the underlying cause of the normocytic anemia, A comlete blood count A lab test is done on  reticulocount: Normal =1- 2% Anemia = 4-5% Nonheamolytic Normocytic Anemia (reticulo count < 2) Heamolytic Normocytic Anemia (reticulo count > 2)

SYMPTOMS Symptoms of normocytic anemia are slow to develop. The first signs of this or any form of anemia are usually feelings of fatigue and a pale complexion. Anemia may also cause you to: F eel dizzy or lightheaded H ave shortness of breath F eel weak Pale skin Cold hand and feets

TREATMENTS Treatment will depend on the cause of the normocytic anemia Treatment of chronic Diseas include Anti Inflamatory Medication Antibiotics Erthropoietin Taking iorn pills Dietary foods or supplements should be added if anemia is due to a lack of a particular vitamin.

Key Takeaways Normocytic anemia is a common form of anemia, though it usually coincides with a chronic health problem that triggers an inflammatory response in the body. If you have symptoms such as unusual tiredness, see your doctor and make sure you’re caught up with all of your blood work. If blood tests reveal normocytic anemia, you should work closely with your physician or team of doctors to treat the underlying problem and this blood disorder.
