Meaning and Nature : The term “PROSE” derived from the Latin word ‘PROSA’ part of the phrase ‘ Prosaoratio ’ . Which means ‘ straight forward speech’. Prose is a form of language which applies ordinary grammatical structures and natural flow of speech rather than rhythmic structure. Prose is linguistic and Practical but not literary and aesthetic in nature. Here the teacher is concerned more with acquisition of language than with the appreciation of literature . It is the art of selecting appropriate words and arrange them in the most appropriate manner.
3.The students read English with comprehension The Students will.. Grasp the meaning of words, phrases and sentences from the given context. locate key words, phrases and sentences in the passage. Recognize relationship between ideas, events and facts. Grasp the central idea. Infer the mood of the author. Distinguish between the main and subordinate ideas in the given passage. Interpret ideas and events.
Objectives of Teaching Prose Lesson: The student understand passages in English when they read them at normal conversational speed. Here the students will... Recognize the characteristic English sounds. Recognize the importance of stress and intonation. Comprehend the meaning of words, phrases and sentences in a given context Find contextual clues to meanings. Get the tone of the speaker with which ideas are conveyed.
2.The Students Speak simple and correct English The Students will.. Produce sounds and sound patterns Correctly. Use stress, pauses and intonation appropriately in the spoken and written forms of the language Follow the changes in modulation of voice and use appropriate modulations in speech Get ease and fluency in speech Maintain contact with the audience. Use appropriate gestures to beatify his/her speech.
4.The students write simple and correct English The Students will.. write neatly and legibly Punctuate and use capitals whenever necessary. Use correct spelling of different words. Use a variety of sentences to convey the same idea. Organize ideas into paragraphs. Give a suitable introduction. Give an appropriate conclusion Avoid unnecessary elements.
5. The students acquire the knowledge of Elements of English language The Students will.. Recall the language items Recognize different elements of language like structures, vocabulary, spelling, pronunciation and punctuation. Recognize similarities between ideas. Classify Ideas Locate errors.
6. The students acquire the knowledge of the subject matter. The Students will.. Recall the subject matter Recognize the subject matter Select the subject matter suitable to the occasion Organize ideas and interpret them in the context Frame the text independently
7. The Students develop interest in English The Students will.. Read books in English other than those prescribed for classroom study. Read and understand the biographies of eminent personalities in English language. Listen to T V and Radio broadcasting. Read newspapers, magazines and journals in English. Contribute articles to English magazines.

Wordsworth. Poetry is the most delightful and perfect form of utterance”--- Mathew Arnold Introduction: Poetry has been derived from the Latin word ‘ Poeta ’ which means ‘POET’ . Poetry can be understood as the poet’s literary production. Poetry is a literary work in which the expression of feelings and ideas. It is a form of literature that evokes a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience.
Aims of Teaching Poetry: The Chief Aim of teaching poetry is developing aesthetic sense among the learners. The purpose of teaching poems in the secondary schools is to reduce the monotony of teaching learning process. During the teaching and recitation the learners enjoy the rhyme and rhythm. Poetry is to increase the imagination on the part of the learners. It gives emphasis on the form rather than the meaning. It is to lay the foundation for the appreciation of the beauty of the poem-the music of the poem-mood of the poet-message.
Objectives of Teaching Poetry The Students appreciate the beauty of the poem: The Students will.... Read the poem effectively with rhyme and rhythm. Use proper pattern of intonation. Grasp the central idea of the poem Locate the picture words and figures of speech contained in the poem. Memorize the interesting lines from the poem. Know the mood of the poet Understand the message, if any conveyed in the poem.
Objectives of Teaching Poetry (cont..) 2. The students develop interest in poetry The Students will.... Listen to the recitation of the poem. Try to recite the poem with rhyme and rhythm. Add music to the poem. Use different tunes and intonation patterns to sing the poem. Develop interest in composing poems. Read biographies of great poets.
