3. Benefit: Low Cost to student  Students spend about 1200 dollars for textbooks during their first year. Saving a few hundred dollars here and there helps alleviate the cost.

4. Benefit: Electronic textbooks may be updated during use and beyond. OPENRN and OPENSTAX state they maintain and update their textbooks consistently

5. Benefit: Permission using copyrights OER either utilized public domain or released copyrights

6. Benefit: OER materials can be modified After checking the Creative Commons license to determine if it is allowed—the material may be modified to meet the needs of the students, class and instructor.
