cannula and simple face mask

OUTLINE

Oxygen therapy: indications
The most readily accepted indication for supplemental oxygenation is hypoxemia
Chronic
•Chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease (COPD)
•Cystic fibrosis
•Pulmonary fibrosis
Acute
Medical emergencies requiring high
concentrations of oxygen in all cases:
•Shock
•Sepsis
•Trauma
•Anaphylaxis
•Carbon monoxide and cyanide poisonings

Hypoxemia: Signs and symptoms
•Shortness of breath.
•Rapid breathing.
•Wheezing.
•Cough.
•Confusion.
•Fast heart rate.
•Changes in skin color.

Oxygen therapy: contraindications
No absolute contraindications

METHODS
OF OXYGEN DELIVERY

Oxygen supply

Methods of oxygen delivery
Low Flow Administration High Flow Administration
Nasal cannula Venturi mask
Simple face mask
Partial and nonrebreather masks

1-6 L/min: 24%-44%

6-12 L/min: 35%-50%

Advantages Disadvantages

10-15 L/min: 60%-90%

Advantages Disadvantages

VENTURI MASK
24%-50%

Advantages Disadvantages
