I crest the dune And there is the sea the waves crash and foam and softly roar at me a) Who is the I in the Poem? b) Where is the speaker standing at the moment? c) Do you think the poet is there at the site in real? Justify. d) Identify the poetic device used in the last line of the stanza. e) What is the rhyme scheme of the given stanza?

a) Who is the I in the Poem? Ans: The ‘I’ in the poem is the speaker or the poet, describing their experience of reaching the top of a sand dune and seeing the sea. b) Where is the speaker standing at the moment? Ans: The speaker is standing on the crest (top) of a sand dune, looking at the sea below.

Do you think the poet is there at the site in real? Justify. Ans: No, the poet is actually at the site and is painting the picture in the reader’s mind using words. This has been mentioned earlier in the poem, when he had failed to paint on a literal canvas after buying 80 bucks worth of paint, and hence, choose the metaphorical canvas instead.

SHORT ANSWER QUESTIONS

1. Why did the poet stop using a brush and paint to create art? Ans: The poet stopped using a brush and paint because he was not good at painting with real colours . Instead, he decided to use words to paint pictures in the reader’s mind. He found that writing can create even more beautiful and lively pictures than real paint.

2. How does the poet describe the colour of the sky? Ans: The poet describes the sky as bright blue, like the first day of summer vacation. This shows that the sky looks fresh, happy, and full of life.

3. What effect does the breeze have on the grass? Ans: The poet says that the breeze makes the grass move gently, as if it is waving or dancing. It makes the scene look alive and beautiful, just like a painting that moves.

4. Where does the poet imagine a seagull to be? The poet imagines the seagull flying over the sea, enjoying the wind and freedom. It adds to the beauty of the beach scene he is describing.

LONG ANSWER QUESTION

In Paint, Michelle Browder describes various colors and how they make her feel. Choose any two colors that describe your emotions or memories and mention why you chose those colors.

Mention of two colors — clearly stated (e.g., blue, green, yellow, red, etc.). Emotional connection — how each color makes you feel (happy, calm, excited, peaceful, energetic, etc.). Personal memory or association — one short reason or memory related to each color (e.g., reminds me of the sky, trees, festivals, friends, etc.). Clarity and expression — feelings are expressed in simple, clear sentences. Relevance to the poem — shows understanding that colors in the poem express emotions and experiences, not just appearance
