Parantan Festival
By Shane Arguelles
What is Parantan Festival about?
A Parantan Festival is a celebration of light, hope, prosperity, and community through lanterns. It
brings people together to honor traditions, share joy, and create lasting memories. The glowing
lanterns symbolize wishes for a brighter and more peaceful future. The word “Parantan” comes
from rantan and parol, the Japanese and Tagalog words for ‘lantern’ – this signifies the influence of
Filipino and Japanese culture on the festival.
How long will the Parantan Festival last?
The festival will be celebrated for an entire
day, filled with activities and events from
morning until night on November 11.

Philippines.

Artists and travelers add music, color, and fun to the night.
Why are you organizing this kind of festival; what
are you celebrating? Why?
I'm organizing the Lantern Festival to celebrate Hope and Prosperity. The lanterns
symbolize light, guiding us through hard times and showing our wishes for a better
future. We'll come together as a community, wish for a brighter and more prosperous
future, share our happiness, love, and sorrows, all while keeping tradition and culture
alive and well preserved.
What types of media would you
use to promote this Festival?
Print Media and Social Media. I would use local news papers and magazines, while
also posting ads on social media.
Parades would look
like this, while women
dance wearing dresses
