CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
The Young learners differ from one another physically,
intellectually, scholastically, emotionally and culturally. In school,
we find bright, average, and slow pupils. Those children who are
low in achieving academic skills and often ignored by other as
dull, lazy, or inept as a part of the school setting are usually belong
to the lowest section in a class. Pupils in the lowest section with
intelligence level in the low average or borderline IQ range can be
grouped together as slow learners. The terminology “Slow
Learner “is unintentionally; it is respectful to speak of such
children as having diverse minds (Levine, 2003).
Pupils in the lowest section tend to obtained poor academic
grades, have difficulty in transferring or generalizing learning
experiences or concept, they tend to have difficulties with
multi-steps directions and multi-tasking, take longer time to
master academic skills, score low in achievement exams and
overall are at risk of dropping out school (Shaw et al.,2005).
The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) helps to
ensure that all children receive a high-quality education and
holds school responsible for making sure that all children are
learning. Pupils in lowest section whose parents are involved
in their school life tend to improve their motivation, self-
esteem, behaviour, attendance and communication with
teacher and family (Wikelund, 2000).

in terms of their GPA?
4. Is there a significant difference between parental
involvement and respondent’s profile?
5. Is there a significant difference between parental
involvement and pupils’ performance?
Scope and Delimitation of the Study
This study will be focused on how parents involved of
Pupils in the Lowest Section. There were 102
respondents will be utilized in the study and will be
conducted at Asia Elementary School, District of
Hinoba-an, Division of Negros Occidental in the

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter described the methods will be used, the research
design, respondent of the study, sampling procedure the data
gathering instrument, the procedure for data gathering and the
tools used for analysis of data
Research Design
In this study, the researcher will be used descriptive research
design to capsulize the beginning and end of the entire process.
According to Gay(2012), descriptive research involves collecting
data in order to answer questions concerning the current status of
anything- a group of persons, a number of objects, asset of
conditions, a clear events and system of thought or any kind of
phenomena which may wish to study.
Respondents of the Study
The subjects of the study will be the parents of grade 1-3
lowest section pupils of Asia Elementary School at District of
Hinoba-an, Division of Negros Occidental. There were 102
parents in this school.
Table 1. Respondents of the Study
GRADE
LEVEL
POPULATION PERCENTAGE
Grade 1 27 26.47%
Grade 2 36 35.29%
Grade 3 39 38.24%
Total 102 100%
Data Gathering Instrument
The researcher will be used standardized questionnaire to measure the link
between parental involvement and student academic performance of the grade 1-3
lowest section pupils of Asia Elementary School at District of Hinoba-an in the
Division of Negros Occidental. This questionnaire is standardized based on the study
entitled Parents of Pupils in the Lowest Section: How Involved? The questionnaire
will be composed of two parts. The first part requires socio-demographic profile of
the respondents. The second part dealt with the Parental Involvement (a.
Communication with School/ Administrators/ Teacher b. Academic Roles and
Responsibility c. Past Parental Involvement d. Parent Self-efficacy.
Before the researcher will be distributed the questionnaire to the parents, the
researcher first selects an MTB Master Teacher from the district in translating the
questionnaires into the mother tongue based so that the parents may understand based
in their owned local dialique.
The Academic Performance of the respondents in their General Percentile Average
will be gathered in the registrar’s office which is secondary data in nature.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researcher will be observed the following data gathering procedure:
Before the researcher will be distributed the questionnaire to the parents,
the researcher first selects an MTB Master Teacher from the district in translating
the questionnaires into the mother tongue based so that the parents may
understand based in their owned local dialique.
The researcher will be sent a letter to the Schools District Supervisor of the
District of Hinoba-an for approval and endorsement to conduct the survey in the
locale. With the copy of the approval and endorsement, letters will be sent to the
school principal of Asia Elementary School and teacher together with the parents
of the pupils in lowest section copies of the survey questionnaires.
After the data will be gathered, the researcher will be conducting the study
with the respondents to collect in-depth reports and comments on the result of
the survey based on experiences, knowledge and judgment on the factors on
parents Involvement and technique consisting of structured discussion
to obtain
in-depth information from a
group of people.
