Parts of speech

Every word in English belongs to a category called a part of speech. Understanding these categories helps you build clear sentences and express ideas accurately. There are eight main parts of speech in English, each with a specific function

NOUN A noun names a person, place, thing, or idea. 01

Examples: The  cat  sat on the windowsill. We visited  New York City last summer. His honesty is admirable. She bought a beautiful dress for the party.

Different Kinds Of Nouns

PRONOUN A pronoun replaces a noun to avoid repetition. 02

Examples: She  is going to the store. The coat is  mine . This is my favorite book. The person who called left a message.

VERB A verb shows an action, occurrence, or state of being. 03

Examples: She  dances  gracefully. The flowers  are  beautiful. He has finished his homework. I run every morning.

ADJECTIVE An adjective describes or modifies a noun or pronoun. 04

Examples: She is a  kind  person. Boarding a  moving  bus can be dangerous. Never poke a wounded animal. That is a beautiful painting

ADVERB An adverb modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb. It often tells how, when, where, or to what extent. 05

Examples: The girl spoke  softly . She walked away  slowly . We should leave bad habits immediately . He ran quickly

PREPOSITION A preposition shows the relationship between a noun (or pronoun) and another word in the sentence. 06

Examples: The book is  on  the table. He plunged  off  the cliff. I live below the 9th floor. We travel from Delhi to Noida

CONJUNCTION A conjunction connects words, phrases, or clauses. 07

Examples: I want tea  and  coffee. She is tired,  but  she will continue. You can have cake or ice cream

INTERJECTION An interjection expresses strong emotion or reaction. 08

Examples: Wow!  That’s amazing. Oh!  I forgot my keys. Ouch! That hurts
