Hunza Valley A M ountainous valley located in Gilgit Karimabad (formerly known as Baltit ) is the capital Tourist season is generally from May to October Total territory of Hunza Valley is around 3,100 square miles . S urrounded by 6500m to 8600m high mountains.
It’s People ( Hunzakuts ) History : Hunzakuts are ethnically Burusho people indigenous to the Hunza Valley. Burusho claim to be descendants of three soldiers who came to the region with Alexander the Great’s army (founded B altit , Altit and Ganish ). Hunzakut’s descend from the village, Baltit . 1892 was ruled by B ritish then became part of Pakistan.
Language : They speak Burushki , Wakhi and the Shina. The Wakhi reside in the upper part of Hunza locally called Gojal . Wakhis also inhabit the bordering regions of China, Tajikstan and Afghanistan and also live in Gizar and Chitral district of Pakistan. The Shina-speaking people live in the southern part of Hunza . They could have come from Chilas , Gilgit , and other Shina-speaking areas of Pakistan many centuries ago.
Life-span : The Hunza people are best known for their healthy diet and lifestyle that supposedly result in people living to the age of 150. The elder Hunzakuts are surprising spry and don't require the modern conveniences that aged people in the West have. They live in good health with little to no diseases.
Population: For many centuries, was isolated from the rest of the world. 1978, Karakoram highway led trade routes between Pakistan and China, directly through the Valley. Total Burusho population in todays time is approximately 60,000.
Literacy: Hunza valley has a very high literacy rate of more than 90%, due to the interest of His Highness, Karim Aga Khan whom most of the Hunzakuts follow as their spiritual leader. 1. Agha Khan Higher Secondary School. 2. Karakoram International University, Hunza Campus, College & University. 3. Uswa Public School. Safety: Hunza is very safe and the people are known for their hospitality.
Culture Of The Hunzakuts Food : Apricots, barley, millet, buckwheat, potatoes, turnips, mulberries, walnuts, apples, peaches and cherries. Ibex , marco -polo sheep, geese and ducks provide the Hunzakuts with meat . Traditional foods are Sharbat , Mamtu , Harissa and muleda , amongst many others. These dishes are cooked with pure butter and downed them in oil, but are prepared on occasion as they are expensive.

Clothing Females: Handwoven hats with a light shawl over it, with baggy pants and long loose and colourful shirts.
Clothing Males: Shalwar Qameez with woollen cloaks or robes having long sleeves, cap with flower infront .
