PERSONAL PRONOUNS Personal pronouns are used in the place of nouns. Subject pronouns replace the subject of the sentence. Object pronouns replace the object of the sentence. For example: Louis gave the box to Mrs. Jewls. He gave the box to her.
Exercise 1: Choose the correct personal pronoun. A. Mrs.Jewls was walking up the stairs when she met ( they / them). B. (We / us) are learning about gravity. C. Exercise 2: Replace the nouns in bold with personal pronouns. Mrs. Jewls was teaching the class about mammals. “All mammals have hair,” Mrs. Jewls said. Bebe raised her hand. “Is my father a mammal?” Bebe asked. “Yes, all people are mammals,” Mrs. Jewls said. “But my father doesn’t have any hair,” said Bebe. “ My father is bald!” The children all laughed.
Exercise 3: Underline the subject pronoun and circle the object pronoun. 1. Bob took her to work Monday. 2. Will you please tell them to come in? 3. Marie, did you forget something? 5. Exercise 4: Replace the underlined words with appropriate pronouns. Use capital letters when necessary. 1. I saw Mr. Brown this morning and gave Mr. Brown my homework. 2. Neil Armstrong was born in 1930. Neil Armstrong landed on the moon in 1969. 3. Penguins don’t live near the North Pole. Penguins live near the South Pole. 4. My aunt lives in Toronto but my aunt often comes to visit my family and me . 5. If you have your ticket, you can give your ticket to that man over there.
6. First, my friend and I went shopping. Later my friend and I went home. 7. Where was Sarah? I didn’t see Sarah at the party last week. 8. John is a really nice guy. I like John a lot. 9. The planet Mars has two moons. The two moons are both very small. 10. Suzy and I paid for the meal, but the waiter forgot to bring Suzy and me the food.
