Abstract The internship titled “Pharmacy Unveiled: Learning Beyond the Textbook” was completed at Brij Nursing Home, Kosi Kalan. It offered practical exposure in prescription handling, patient counselling, and dispensing of medications. This experience strengthened professional competencies, bridging theoretical and practical pharmacy knowledge.
Introduction, Aim & Objectives Internships connect academic knowledge with real-life practice. The aim was to gain insight into hospital pharmacy operations. Objectives included: • Understanding prescription handling • Observing patient counselling • Learning inventory and drug management • Applying theoretical knowledge in real scenarios
About the Organization – Brij Nursing Home Brij Nursing Home, Kosi Kalan, is a healthcare institution offering affordable and quality medical care. It houses a dedicated team of doctors, nurses, and pharmacists. The pharmacy department ensures safe medicine use and effective patient care. The institution follows protocols for patient safety and standard treatment guidelines.
Practical Training Hands-on training covered: • Dispensing medicines and verifying prescriptions • Patient counselling and explaining medication use • Inventory and stock management • Observing pharmacovigilance (ADR reporting) • Understanding hospital pharmacy workflow This enhanced practical confidence and real-world pharmacy experience.
Learning Outcomes Key learnings: • Accurate dispensing and dosage verification • Strengthened pharmacological knowledge • Improved patient counselling skills • Gained inventory management and pharmacovigilance experience • Developed communication, teamwork, and ethical responsibility in healthcare.
Professional & Ethical Growth The internship helped develop essential soft skills such as teamwork, accountability, and communication. It instilled a professional work ethic and a deep understanding of the pharmacist’s responsibility toward patient safety and public health.
Conclusion The internship bridged theory and practice, preparing me for real-world pharmacy roles. It enhanced my confidence, communication, and technical skills. I realized that pharmacists play a vital role in ensuring drug safety, patient recovery, and public health improvement.
