Pink Bollworm Technical Name: Pectinophora gossypiella (Gelechiidae; Lepidoptera) Major pest of Cotton

Identification: Eggs- oval and white Larva- pink colour Adult- dark brown with blackish spots on forewings

Life Cycle of Pink Bollworm: Larva Adult Egg Pupae 10-12 days pupal period grows in 12-14 days egg hatches in one week Lays 150-200 eggs on leaves There are 4-6 generations of this pest in a year

Damage: Larvae bore the squares, flowers and bolls and eats the internal content If larvae enter in the squares, such squares do not open properly and called “Rosette Flowers” Lot of shedding takes place.

Control: Pest can be controlled by following method Clean cultivation and destruction of alternate host plants After picking, grazing of sheep on unwanted bolls in the field Natural enemies of the pest (predators and parastoids) should be promoted in the field Application of triazophos EC 1000 ml/acre
