MANILA SOUND “ hinahanap - hanap kita , Manila. Ang ingay mong kay sarap sa tenga , mga jeepney mong nagliliparan , mga babae mong nag gagandahan ” . These song lines belong to Manila sound, a 70's pop music genre and rock movement. It is about living an urban life, as most artists live in the cities of Manila. The Manila sound developed into various styles and genres, which is eventually called Original Pilipino Music.
WHAT IS OPM? Original Pilipino Music (OPM) refers to Philippines popular songs composed by Filipinos in the Philippines. It began with genres like rock and roll, disco, country, swing, funk, and a little jazz. Vinyl discs played these songs through phonographs or gramophones , which only rich people could afford to buy.

TUNOG KALYE 90's OPM is tagged as tunog kalye . These are music that you hear in the “streets” and have lyrics from everyday life . It started when radio show showcased live performances of promising bands, which pushed alternative music and hip-hop to enter the mainstream. Bands used their electric guitars, drum sets, and keyboards, while rappers used electronic beats that emphasized rhythm and lyrics.
