POPULAR METHODS OF LANGUAGE TEACHING Overview In these slides I briefly explain the methods of language teaching that have been used over the years .Language teaching methods play a crucial role in the effective acquisition and the development of language skills. Language teaching methods serve as valuable tools for language educators to facilitate effective language learning, promote learner engagement and confidence and create meaningful language acquisition experiences Presented by: Hamza Asif
POPULAR METHODS OF LANGUAGE TEACHING The Direct Method : In this method, the teaching is done entirely in the language being learned. The learner is not allowed to use his or her original language. Grammar rules are avoided and there is an emphasis on good pronunciation. Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) : The focus of this method is to enable the learner to communicate effectively and appropriately in the various situations she would be likely to find herself in. The content of CLT courses are functions such as inviting, suggesting, complaining, or notions such as the expression of time, quantity, location. Much like The Structural Approach, this method is commonly used in language learning apps.
POPULAR METHODS OF LANGUAGE TEACHING Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) : TBLT focuses on the completion of meaningful tasks as a means of language learning. Students work on specific tasks that require language use, and the focus is on meaning rather than accuracy. It promotes communication and problem-solving skills. The aim here is to highlight the importance of learning the language by making it vital to task completion. Content-Based Instruction (CBI) : This method integrates language learning with the study of subject matter. Students learn a language through content-focused courses, such as history, science, or literature. Language instruction is embedded within the content.
POPULAR METHODS OF LANGUAGE TEACHING The Silent Way : In this method, the teacher remains silent for a significant portion of the class, encouraging students to take an active role in their own learning. Students are guided to discover and produce language through problem-solving activities. Suggestopedia : This method emphasizes the importance of a positive and relaxed learning environment. It incorporates music, relaxation techniques, and rich sensory experiences to create an atmosphere conducive to language learning.
POPULAR METHODS OF LANGUAGE TEACHING The Structural Approach : This method sees language as a complex of grammatical rules which are to be learned one at a time in a set order. So for example the verb “to be” is introduced and practiced before the present continuous tense which uses “to be” as an auxiliary. This method of learning is common in language learning apps.
