3. GOALS OF THE EXTERNSHIP PROGRAMME Develop the externs lawyering skills. Make the externs understand the various aspects of the legal system as well as the legal profession. Inculcate in the externs a sense of professional responsibility and values. Develop the externs’ ability to reflect on and learn from their experience.

5. EVALUATION OF COURT The court is located in a neat environment, although located near a major road, it is not noisy. The court has no public address system. The Judge is nice, hardworking and dedicated to his work The court room is small, there is no provision for the externs The court room lighting is very good.

EVALUATION OF LAW FIRM It is a big Ministry There are over 100 lawyers and over 100 support staff which includes secretaries cleaners and gatemen The ministry is situate in a purpose built office suitable for legal practice. Each lawyer has his own personal office thus making it very comfortable and conducive The ministry also has a library, conference room The ministry has 6 department and 5 units

CHALLENGES WITNESSED DURING THE EXTERNSHIP The court had no public address system, it was difficult to hear the proceedings sometimes The courtroom was small and not conducive Some lawyers come to court poorly dressed Most cases ended up being unnecessarily adjourned I didn’t actively participate in client interview in the office but ADR

13. RECOMMENDATIONS Public address system should be provided in the courtroom so that the proceedings can be audible and properly heard by everyone The court room should be renovated and enlarged so that there can be enough space for everyone including the externs
