CBT COMPETENCY BASED TRAINING SHIELDED METAL ARC WELDING (SMAW) NC II
What is CBT 10 Principles of CBT Comparative Analysis B etween Traditional Education and CBT Role of CBT Trainer and Role of a Trainee Qualification Overview Competency Based Learning Material (CBLM) COMPETENCY BASED TRAINING ORIENTATION (SMAW) NC II
What is CBT?
Competency Based Training (CBT) It is a training delivery approach that focuses on the competency development of a Learner as a result of a training.
COMPETENCY BASED TRAINING 10 PRINCIPLES 1. The training is based on curriculum developed from the competency standards 2. Learning is modular in its structure 3. Training delivery is learner centered and should accommodate individualized and self-paced learning strategies 4. Training is based on work that must be performed 5. Training materials are directly related to the competency standards and curriculum modules
6. Assessment is based in the collection of evidence of the performance of work to the industry required standard 7. Training is based both on and off the job component 8. Training program allows for recognition of prior learning (RPL) or current competencies 9. Training allows for multiple entry and exit 10. Training programs are registered with the UTPRAS COMPETENCY BASED TRAINING 10 PRINCIPLES
CBT Process Flow
COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS
Here’s the BIG DIFFERENCE !!!
COMPETENCY BASED TRAINING TRADITIONAL MODE (Time - Based Learning) CBT APPROACH (Performance - Based Learning) Movement based on time Movement based on performance Learning happens only in the classroom Learnig takes place anytime, any where Driven by textbooks Driven by needs of learners Teacher-centered decision making Learner-centered decision making Focus on learning basic skills in different subject areas Focus on critical and problem-solving skill across content areas Teacher is the only judge of quality student work Self, peers, teachers, administrators and other stakeholders judge student work Teacher controls the learning pace Learners progress at his/her own pace Prepares learners for industrial-age jobs Prepares learners for 21 st century jobs All learners usually tested once Each learner is tested when ready to demonstrate mastery. It focuses on the outcome/end product summary
ROLE OF A CBT TRAINER Facilitator Teacher Negotiator Coordinator Curriculum Developer Instructional Material Developer Counselor Actor Session Planner
ROLE OF A TRAINEE Decides on when ready to demonstrate Competes againts industry Standards Work and ask help with others Evaluates own performance Moves freely in the workshop Selects on what competency to start Progresses at own rate Request to receive credits on what they know
Qualification Overview Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II BASIC COMPETENCIES Work in Team Environment Practice career professionalism Practice occupational health and safety procedures COMMON COMPETENCIES Apply Safety Practices Interpret Drawings and Sketches Perform Industry Calculations Contribute to Quality System Use Hand Tools Prepare Weld Materials Setup Welding Equipment Fit up Weld Materials Repair Welds CORE COMPETENCIES Weld Carbon Steel Plates and Pipes Using SMAW
What is CBLM? is simply a well-designed and carefully developed learning materials that give trainees detailed instruction to guide them throughout the learning process. PARTS OF CBLM Preliminary Pages Front Page Trainees guidelines List of competencies Instruction Sheet Information sheet Self check Answer key Task sheet Job sheet Operation sheet Performance criteria checklist
Monitoring Tools Progress Chart If you have acquired/achieve or accomplished a certain learning outcome or a particular unit of competency. Achievement Chart Whenever you achieve a particular learning outcome. Comprises all the daily activities under a certain learning outcome. As if they look the same
Evaluation Tools Written test Pre test Post test Oral questioning Direct observation Performance test
QUESTIONS ? Clariffications ? Since there are questions/clarifications - You may have your 15mins break. Please come back after 15 mins …
GOODBYE !!!
