Before we start our lesson, please put your phones in your bag. If I see you using your phone during our class, unless I allow you , I will confiscate it temporarily.

HUMAN ACTIVITIES THAT TRIGGER LANDSLIDE Earth and Life Science

LET’S REVIEW!

GEOHAZARD GUESSING Using the picture shown, guess what geohazard it is. You may use the jumbled letters as a clue.

OLVCACIN SSASEG Answer: Volcanic gases

AILTINOQUFCE Answer: Liquefaction

AALHR Answer: Lahar

OBJECTIVES

HUMAN ACTIVITIES THAT TRIGGER LANDSLIDE

INSTRUCTION When the music is playing, the learner should pass the ball from the other learner and so on. When the music stops, the one who is holding the ball will take the outer paper and read what is written on it.

1. MINING It refers to the use of explosives underground which are felt like mini earthquakes. This can cause a landslide.

1. MINING Also, historic mining can cause a ground level gap of 6-8ft. A shift in soil can cause a ground level drop of the same measurement, leading to a landslide.

2.QUARRYING An excavation or pit, that is commonly open to the air, from which building stone, slate, gravel, are obtained by blasting, cutting, and etc.

Landslide in quarrying area in Naga City, Cebu

3.LAND POLLUTION It i s the degradation of earth’s land surfaces are often triggered by human doings/activities and its misuse.

3.LAND POLLUTION The haphazard disposal of urban and industrial exploitation of minerals, wastes, and improper use of soil by poor agricultural practices are a few of the contributing factors.

4. EXCAVATION It is the processing, exposure, and recording of archaeological remains. The excavation site or “dig” is a site being studied.

5. LAND USE It involves the management and modification of natural environment or wilderness into built environment examples are construction of houses, roads and etc.

QUESTION Why is it important to learn about the human activities that can trigger landslide?

QUESTION As a student, what should you do to lessen human activities that can cause landslide?

SUMMARY Human Activity – are various actions for recreation, living, or necessity done by people. Quarrying – cut into rock or ground to obtain stone or other materials. Mining – is the extraction of geological materials from the earth, usually from an ore body, placer deposits and etc. Excavation – the action of excavating something, especially an archaeological site. Land Pollution – refers to the deterioration of the earth’s land surfaces. Land Use – involves the management and modification of natural environment or wilderness into built environment such as housing, settlements, and etc.

ACTIVITY 1: SLOGAN MAKING

INSTRUCTION Starting from the upper left, each learner will count from 1 to 5. After that, group yourselves according to your assigned number. For 15 minutes, make a slogan that reflects on how we should take care of our mother earth. Do it on a bond paper. You may color it and design it based on the given message of your slogan. After you are done, paste it on the board.

RUBRICS FOR SLOGAN MAKING   5 7 10 CONTENT The meaning is absent; only plain phrases are written. There is a clear message about the topic but it lacks in depth meaning. It evidently showcases a meaningful message related to the topic. RELEVANCE The message is not in line with the given topic. It is slightly related to the given topic. The message of the slogan depicted the true essence of the topic. CREATIVITY It needs more design and the font size are not that readable for all ages. Its design is good, arranged and it is readable. The design is very attractive and well arrange that everyone that sees it wants to read it.

ACTIVITY 2: TRUE OR FALSE

INSTRUCTION Answer the activity directly on the given activity sheet. Do not forget to write your name, grade, section, and date. Read the instruction on the paper carefully. True or False. Put a smiley face 😊 if the statement is true and sad face ☹ if the statement is false. Answer silently.

ASSIGNMENT On ½ crosswise, write the definition of the following words: Pacific ring of fire Hazard Susceptible Risk Occurrence
