\ BACKGROUND OBJECTIVE OF THE RESEARCH RESEACRH NOVELTY BACKGROUND This research focuses on the importance of the teacher's role in the teaching and learning process as the core of education, with a focus on improving teacher competence in order to be able to create an effective learning environment and manage students optimally. This study analyzes the competencies of English teachers in Pangkep high schools through a qualitative descriptive approach, to understand their perceptions, competencies, and influencing factors. The results showed that some teachers have not met the competency standards, so this study aims to provide recommendations to improve the quality of teaching in accordance with the expected standards. OBJECTIVE OF THE RESEARCH The objectives of research are to find out: (a) the teachers’ perception of English teacher competences at senior high schools in Pangkep , (b) the English teachers’ competences at senior high schools in Pangkep , and (c) factors influence the understanding of English teachers at senior high schools in Pangkep . RESEARCH NOVELTY This study differs from previous studies in that it uses checklist observations and interviews with teachers in schools with A, B and C accreditation, focusing on the four competencies stipulated by Law No. 14 of 2005. This study aims to analyse the competencies of English teachers in senior high schools in Pangkep Regency, using a qualitative approach to get a more in-depth perspective from several schools in the area. RESEARCH METHODS AND MAIN RESULTS OF THE STUDY The design of this study is descriptive qualitative. The researcher used the observation checklist and interview methods aimed at being able to deeply understand the problems raised, namely the An Analysis of English teachers’ competences at senior high schools in Pangkep . Based on the results of observations using a checklist, researchers can conclude that the professional, pedagogical, personality, and social competence of teachers in three schools in Pangkep Regency are generally good. Teachers are able to manage classes effectively, deliver materials clearly, and innovate in learning methods. However, at SMAN 10 Pangkep , there are obstacles in maximizing interaction and variation in teaching methods, mainly due to online learning. Nevertheless, the teachers still demonstrate a professional attitude and are able to interact well, both with students and the community, including through visits to students' homes to understand the obstacles faced in learning. Meanwhile, based on the interview method, the researcher concluded that teacher competence, which includes professional, pedagogical, personality, and social aspects, is a crucial element in supporting the role of an educator. Emotional problems experienced by teachers are often related to their ability to analyze student conditions, so it is important for teachers to manage emotions effectively in order to create a positive work environment. In addition, support from colleagues plays a significant role in developing teacher competence, through the exchange of ideas and constructive feedback. Teachers are also expected to be able to maintain professionalism by not bringing personal problems into the school environment, so that the quality of teaching remains optimal. OUTPUT IN PUBLICATION FORM AND CONLUSION AND SUGGESTION The research result will be published in reputable national journal (SINTA 4) as the output of this research. The targeted TKT is level 3. The conclusion of this study shows that teacher competence, which includes professional, pedagogical, personality, and social competence, is a crucial aspect in supporting the role and responsibilities of an educator. Emotional problems and personal factors of teachers need to be managed well so as not to affect the quality of teaching. The development of teacher competence is influenced by the support of colleagues through the exchange of ideas and feedback. Obstacles that affect teacher competence include curriculum changes, low motivation, and limited funds. Meanwhile, suggestions from the study. First, teachers need to continue to develop their competence through training, adapting to change, and building good communication with students, colleagues, and parents. Second, students are expected to appreciate the teacher's efforts in creating an inclusive learning environment and actively participate in the learning process. Third, further researchers are advised to study teacher competence, especially in teaching English, with more detailed data and various perspectives.
