St. Maria Troncatti
St. Maria Troncatti was born in Italy atCorteno on 16th February 1883. She grew up in a large happy family working in the fields, caring for her sisters and brothers with warm affection.
Every month Miss Buila her teacher received a salesian Bulletin which she gave to M aria to read . M aria then become aware of the wonderful works in the mission lands. then she got a desire to become a S alesian S ister .
One day Maria said to her sister catherin “ I like to become a sister and go as a missionary and work for for lepers Her desire is to work for the lepers in the mission land.
After her 21st birthday she wrote to Fr. Michael Rua, the successor of DonBosco. The letter was passed to Mother Catherine Daghero, the superior General of the Daughters of mary help of Christians. She reached Nizza Monferrato. Maria troncatti this is the way how she reached in the congregation of the Daughters of mary help of Christians.
As the time passed the sisters thought whether she was normal and happy tobecome a religious She was suffocated in the midst of the rules and regulations of this new life Maria was confused. I am nothing. How could a poor mountain girl succeed
Towards the Canonization of Sr. Maria Troncatti , October 19,2025. Mamita of the Amazon Children chant “ Mamita , Mamita !” as she arrives. She hugs them all, eyes twinkling. One child offers a flower. Another shares fruit. Her bag carries medicine and rosaries. The sick come one by one. She treats them without rest. Her love is tireless. A tribal elder declares, “She is mother to all.” Even the trees seem to listen when she prays.
Lord I want to be yours for ever. Jesus I have left all that I held dearest to serve you and sanctify my soul Yes Ihave left all. This was the prayer of sr. Maria.
On 12th September 1908, she became a Daughter of mary help of Christians . She was assigned to be a cook in Rosignano Monferrato. She was then transferred to Varazze, where she remained for ten years.
Italy faced the first World war in 1915 She miraculously escaped from the flooded water oa River Teiro. Sr. maria prayed Lord if you save me I will go as a missionary to work among the lepers . She kept her promise
Marina a little girl prophesied on her death bed. “Sr. Maria you will go to Ecuador”.
The Candlelit Mass No electricity, no microphones—just faith. Maria sang softly, and the jungle listened. Children knelt on woven mats. She said, “This is our cathedral.” Heaven doesn’t need walls. 14 August The Girl Who Asked About Heaven “Is heaven like the jungle?” a child asked. Maia smiled: “It’s even more beautiful.” She described angels like butterfl. The girl said, “Then I want to go there.” Faith bloomed in wonder.
The Morning Offering The sun hasn’t risen. Maria lights a candle. She kneels, praying: “For strength… for peace.” Rosary beads slip through her fingers. She walks the Way of the Cross alone. A child peeks in. “Why up so early?” “To start the day with the One who guides me.” Then she grabs her bag and smiles. Sr. Maria writes in her notebook. “Every day I am happier in my religious and missionary vocation” “One glace at the crucifix renews my courage and gives me wings with which to work”
Her great desire was fulfilled by building the hospital
The Cross Made of Twigs: She built a cross from fallen branches. It stood in the center of the village. Children decorated it with flowers. She said, “This is our cathedral.” Faith doesn’t need marble.

Blessed Maria Troncatti lived her missionary life with heroic faith, dedicating herself as a nurse, catechist, and spiritual mother among the Shuar people of Ecuador, bringing healing, education, and the love of Christ
Eucharist at Dawn: The Candle lit Mass: Every morning at 3:30, she was in church. She prayed the Via Crucis before sunrise. Her sisters said, “She glows in the dark.” Jesus was her first appointment each day. She never missed it The Monkey That Stole Her Lunch: A monkey snatched her bread and ran. She laughed and said, “Even he’s hungry for grace.” She gave him a banana and blessed him. The monkey returned the bread—half-eaten. She called it “jungle communion.”
Blessed Maria Troncatti died in a tragic plane crash in Sucúa, Ecuador, on August 25, 1969, while traveling for her missionary work.
