INTRODUCTION Cricket is one of the most popular sports in the world . Originated in England in the 16th century. Played by two teams of 11 players each. Known as the Gentleman's Game.

HISTORY First played in England in the 14 TH century. Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) set early rules . The first international match was in 1844.Test cricket began in 1877 between England and Australia.

RULES AND REGULATIONS Two teams of 11 players . One team bats while the other bowls and fields . The aim is to score more runs than the opposition . Runs are scored by hitting the ball and running between wickets .

FORMATS Test Cricket – Played over 5 days . One Day International (ODI) – 50 overs per side . Twenty20 (T20) – 20 overs per side . The Hundred – New format with 100 balls per side.

CRICKET FIELD The field is oval-shaped . The pitch is 22 yards long . Boundaries marked around the field . Key positions: wicketkeeper, slip, gully, mid-on, mid-off, etc .

EQUIPMENTS Bat Ball Stumps and Bails Protective gear (helmet, pads, gloves ) Uniform (jersey, trousers, shoes)
