INTRODUCTION As stipulated in the course description of the Curriculum Guide, work immersion is one of the course requirement for graduation. A senior High School student has to undergo Work Immersion in an industry that directly relates to the student’s postsecondary goal. Through work immersion, the student’s are exposed to and become familiar with work –related environments related to their field of specialization to enhance their competence.
Work immersion provides “real workplace” experiences. students absorb themselves into the situation of others during the period. However, work immersion is facing tremendous challenges due to pandemic. The health emergency caused the transfer of face-to-face education to online and offline education. To meet the challenges of covid-19, everyone needs to be flexible with one another and work together for instructional continuity for the students to be effective. Each and everyone in the academe has a crucial role to play in ensuring that no students will be left behind as we adapt the Home-Based scheme.
HOME- BASED WORK IMMERSION
Through Work Immersion intends to provide SHS learners with opportunities to become familiar with the workplace, stimulate employment, and apply their competencies in area of specialization/applied subjects in actual environments. DepEd recognizes other options that may equally prepare learners for all curriculum exits. There is a need to shift into a safer learning environment.
One way to address this is through the conduct of the Home-Based Immersion that will usher the K-12 education reform. During this school year 2020-2021. the trainees will be accomplishing task/activities at the confines of their homes provided with proper supervision of their parents/ guardians.
As per memorandum DM-CI 2020-00085 entitled “Guidelines for Work Immersion Implementation During Crisis Situation” Home-based was defined as the learners shall perform their activities at home but will be monitored regularly by the SHS teacher. This scheme applies only to learners with available materials, tools, or devices that can be used to demonstrate their competencies. Guided by the learning competencies, the teacher and learners need to select the activities to be performed.
